Title: What happened in your state last night?
Post by: Doc on November 05, 2008, 11:57:45 AM: Here in Missouri, we remained firmly in the red column.....although the MSM is still calling our presidential vote "too close to call", that is only because McCain won the vote by only 6,000 with all precincts reporting, and the St. Louis political machine has invaded all of the cemeteries in the area digging frantically for names to list on a few "provisional ballots". They will eventually give it up in failure, but they have to try, you know. That said, the local media has already called the state for McCain.

We replaced our Republican Governor who chose not to run for a second term (and also who happens to be a friend of mine) with a "centrist" Democrat, who has earned over the years an "A" rating from the NRA. In any state east of the Mississippi, Jay Nixon would be called a "Republican"......A staunch conservative was elected as Lt. Governor.

In the state Senate, our Republican Party picked up three seats, making the conservative majority larger, and more effective than before.

In the state House of Representatives, we lost only one seat, however, maintaining a substantial Republican majority.

Here in my local district (District 6), my congressman, Sam Graves soundly defeated Democrat Kaye Barnes (former mayor of KC), upon who the DNC spent approximately 3 million dollars in support.....that race wasn't even close.....

All things considered, it was not a bad night here in the "heartland"......

We elevated a raving moonbat from the Representative for the People's Republic of Boulder to the Marxist junior Senator for the State of Colorado.

The Referendum defining as a "person" anything from the moment of conception failed.

The referendum to bar "Closed Shops" is failing.

The Governor's Referendums to tax "big oil" (state severence taxes) more is failing miserably. :II:

Generally, Colorado drank the ****in' Kool-Aid last night.

My little precinct, a suburb of Philly in Delaware County, remained red. We even elected a young conservative republican to state senate. A tiny sliver of silver in a hurricane driving a tsunami.

Nebraska went against the grain yesterday.

Michael Johanns (R) was handily elected to the U.S. Senate to replace the retiring Charles Hagel (R); he was up against a "rising young star" in the Nebraska Democrat party, and thumped him, lassoed him, brought him down.

All three incumbent Republican congressmen (Jeff Fortenberry, Lee Terry, and Adrian Smith) were re-elected, Fortenberry (Lincoln) and Smith (western two-thirds of Nebraska) raking in 70+% of the vote. Terry had a time in Omaha, but pulled it out 52-48%; his opponent was another "rising young star" in the Nebraska Democrat party.

The initiative to prohibit "affirmative" "action" won, 55-45%; no more affirmative action in Nebraska.

McCain-Palin rolled big, but alas not nearly enough to counter what was happening elsewhere.

Some state questions passed and some didn't. It was kind of a mixed bag in that regard as far as promoting conservative principles. Pay hikes for politicians went down like the Hindenburg and a couple of liberal judges were retained, while at the same time more conservatives were retained, on the Court of Criminal Appeals and the OSSC.

It's even better when one considers the ranks of upper-level conservatives and Republicans are constantly refreshed with stars from the lower-level.

That's why it's important to pay attention to those running for lesser offices; there might occur some with promise for higher things.

In my Missouri congressional district #9, Blaine Luetkemeyer, a Republican banker, narrowly defeated Democrat Judy Baker who was touted as the Third Coming of Jesus Christ (just behind Obama).

This race got real ugly real fast.

Even the Wall Street Journal recognized that Baker was a rising star.

The only problem was, she was a one-trick pony. Her big claim to fame was her involvement in managed health care (read socialized medicine) and she was determined to bring it about. This, of course, is right out of the Hillary playbook.

Luetkemeyer had to loan almost $1 million of his own money to his campaign and he certainly wasn't a strong candidate. But he did prevail.

Judy can go home and study her Hillary playbook a little more. Or, perhaps His Holiness Obama will call on her to champion socialized medicine for all - or, at least those who aren't sick.

Additionally, and also mentioned elsewhere by TVDOC, a Proposition on the Missouri ballot to make English as the official state language won an OVERWHELMING victory, of something like 86%. This is very good news if the freakin' politicians are listening.

My point in another post was that even in blue states, conservative principles are a winner........last time I went to the library, I couldn't find the book entitled "Great Moderates in American History"......

I don't know what the boundaries of the 9the district are, but I met him at a "spring festival" at a town near where our family farm is located, as well as saw a lot of his campaign signs around the area, and he seemed like a good guy....glad he won. I didn't know anything about his opponent, but looks like the voters made a good choice based on your description.....As I watched the returns last night, I noticed that he was running behind before I retired.

In local matters A couple months back our city council voted to remove the mayor from office, Last night four council members that voted for removal lost in recall elections by 3 - 1 margins. The former Mayor also lost in a return bid by a narrow margin to a former county judge. Bond issues for a new Police station, a Community Rec center, Road repairs & Water/sewer & solid waste repair/upgrades all passed by significant margins.

I thought for sure that in town Atlanta would put Martin in and Ga for the Obamessiah. On another point, we get to prepare these next 2 years to get the House and Senate back into GOP hands. At least Dirty Harry and Co don't have the super majority. I just wish that we could've fought the MSM onslaught a little better, and that our Reps would've stood up to the Dems more. Well, thats my take on it. Time to buck up and prepare. I won't disrespect the office when Obama gets sworn in by sayin"he's not my President", or *bama or whatever the moonbats came up with. Thats the difference between Conservatives and Liberals, we know how to pick ourselves up and get going again. We don't lay under the bed and cry and scream "sorry world". We survived Clinton, we'll get through this. I hope they don't do too much damage while they're in. I'm pissed at the way President Bush was treated. He's a good man that did try to do the bipartisan thing and got railroaded for it. Medicaid/medicare, NCLB, the subprime thing, no one even looked at the Dems. Bush tried to work with them, but they proved that you can't do that. Its either their way or the highway. He's a good man and deserved better from our Congress(who had a lower rating than he did, and didn't even come close to anything on their first hundred days like thy promised). He did spend too much, but I think that's what he thought the country wanted. I truly do think that he thought what he was doing was best for the country. Sorry this is so long, but, I needed to vent a little. Now that thats over, the reality is...Life goes on.. Thanks......MD

The good news is neither Ohio Senator was on the block this election cycle. A down cycle for the good guys for sure. Squishy "Republican" George Voinovich faces a 2010 re-election though he will be 74. Democrat Sherrod Brown faces a 2012 re-election which will be a referendum on Obama.

We also voted "yes" on Prop 102 which will amend our constitution to recognize marriage as one man and one woman.

That was a nice silver lining in a turbulent storm.

1 - Massachusetts residents like to pay income taxes, and will continue to do so.

2 - We 'decriminalized' weed. Now you can have up to an ounce, and if caught you lose your stash and get a $100 fine. Though an ounce doesn't sound like much on the surface, I'm told you can get about 60 'pinners' out of that much.

3 - Our last Greyhound racing track will be forcibly closed and all 1,000 or so workers sent to unemployment.

NVa has been a problem for some time. With just a tiny increase in black and white guilt voting we tipped the scale. It kills me that Henrico county (north of Richmond) went blue when they will be hit hard with the tax increases. People there are idiots though. THey will learn their lesson these next two years.

With all of this, the one further distinction we get to heap upon the "Great State" of Colorado, is that we appear to be the only state this election that couldn't pass a "No Discrimination" (anti Affirmative Action) referendum.
