Title: Obama Offers Rahm Emanuel Job of White House Chief of Staff
Post by: Wretched Excess on November 05, 2008, 08:46:09 AM
Obama's first move as president-elect was to pick the most rabid attack dog in the entire democrat party as his chief of staff.  this isn't hope, healing, or unity.  and it certainly isn't reaching across any lines.  this is an unintentionally honest admission of his own view of his lack of washington experience, i.e., experience for the job;  he picked a partisan party veteran.

hope, healing, and unity were campaign themes.  this is reality.

Obama Offers Rahm Emanuel Job of White House Chief of Staff

ABC News has learned that President-elect Obama has offered the White House chief of staff job to Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill.

Emanuel, a knowledgeable source tells ABC News, has not yet given his answer. The sharp-tongued, sharp-elbowed, keenly intelligent veteran of the Clinton White House is said to have ambitions to some day be Speaker of the House. But he also has a keen sense of "duty."

Today on "Good Morning America" ABC's George Stephanopoulos reported Obama likes the fact that Emanuel "knows policy, knows politics, knows Capitol Hill" and has told associates that Emanuel would "have his back."

There is a tentative plan to announce Obama's chief of staff this week.

A fellow chicago thug? What's the dirt on him?

Back in 1993, the now-defunct Spy magazine wrote an article not complimentary of him; I disremember all the details, other than that he's enormously rich.

And that in the inaugural parade of January 20, 1993, about the same time I was losing my right elbow 1500 miles west, he rode in a limousine in the parade larger, more ostentatious, more expensive, than what the Impeached One and his wife rode.

Fox sat around this morning talking about which republicans Oman should appoint to his cabinet.

Are they Freaking nuts Barack won't have a republican within 1,000 feet of the whitehouse unless it is to clean the toilets.

oh, I wouldn't be surprised if he picked token republican.  bonkers chuck hagel at defense, for example.  he is hysterically opposed to the iraq war, would lay down for barney frank to gut the defense department, and would generally be obama's lapdog.

but that might not be such a bad thing;  we could probably wind up with a more conservative senator from nebraska as the end result.

We already did; Michael Johanns won last night, handily.

In fact, it appears Nebraska bucked all national trends.

I have no idea why.

Hagel for SecDef would be suicidal.  Therefore entirely possible.

I was talking about trading hagel in on a real conservative.

I'm sorry; I didn't say it clearly.

We did replace Hagel.

Idaho went cleanly to the Reps.  Actually, Wyoming is the only state besides your's that is any "Redder" (we always are).

They did elect one dem because of a lousy rhino down around Boise.

Looks like the Dem is more conservative than the incumbent (he's even a member of the NRA, if you can believe that!), so we're pretty safe.
