Title: Obama's Presidency Is Going To Be Tough One
Post by: Ptarmigan on November 04, 2008, 11:14:20 PM
Since Barack Obama won the election. Congratulations to him. There were so much enthuiastic support for him, never I have seen in my life, not even Clinton, Bush, or Kerry had that. Obama was a great speaker who could reach out to people and had this youthful appeal and was young. They treated him like a messiah. However, I think Obama will have a very tough road ahead.

Once Obama becomes President, he is going to have a tough road ahead. Many of his supporters will be disappointed because little change happens. Economy does not repair itself quickly as many like to think. Stock market is not a good indicator. The stock market is volatile whether there is a depression or economy boom. The economy is a cycle, there are booms and busts, which is about a decade. The government caused most of the economic and financial problem we are in, which was simmering for decades.

Obama will most likely be a one term President. He is like Jimmy Carter, tries to paint himself as an outsider and promoter of change. There were a lot of expectation for Carter, like we are seeing with Obama and guess what, the economy was weak in the late 1970s, like it is today.

As for change, it starts with us, not the government. In many ways, the idea of divine rights to kings is back in the form of having people expecting the government to help us. The government cannot help us for everything.

As the folks that voted for him will hopefully soon come to realize.

Oh yeah. Somehow, I think there will be a lot of diappointment from Obama supporters in 6 months. They wonder what the change is going to happen.

Most of the pundits believed George Bush would be a one term president also. Just sayin'.

True. Of course that did not turn out to be the case. When did they say he was a one termer? I think we are going to be in a generation of one term Presidents, starting with Obama.

If you employ people -- fire them today.

This is your choice from your new fuhrer: If you employ them today you will be responsible for them forever.

Sell them off to a temp agency so you don't have to keep them cradle to grave.

The way I see it...

Obama has set some very high expectations of himself during the campaign.

Obama will have to cave on some of his promises (tax cuts), and deliver on others that will prove unpopular (withdrawing from Iraq, civilian defense corps).

The economy's nowhere near a recovery.  I think we'll be in recession (negative growth) for at least six months, possibly over a year.  Certain policies popular with the left will exacerbate this.

Congress already has nearly a single digit approval rating.

What does this mean?  If the Democrats think that they have a mandate to do whatever they want, then they're due a very rude awakening.  Depending on how the GOP responds to their loss, and rebuilds themselves, the Democrats have two years.  Senators up for election in 2010 were elected in 2004, and the entire House is up for grabs then as well.  There's usually a bit of "buyer's remorse" after an election like this, and I expect that to be in full effect in a couple of years.

Interesting point: Some of the biggest parts of Bush's tax cuts will sunset after 2010 (Jan 1, 2011).  I think a number of congressional elections will be won or lost over how the incumbent dealt with the proposed extensions of the cuts.
