Republican holds seat in Georgia U.S. Senate race
WASHINGTON, Nov 4 (Reuters) - Incumbent Sen. Saxby Chambliss won the U.S. Senate election in Georgia on Tuesday, an important victory for Republicans against a strong Democratic challenge, Fox News projected.
Chambliss, who was elected to the Senate in 2002, defeated Democratic challenger Jim Martin, a former state representative. Democrats had targeted the Southern state as a possible pickup in a drive to solidify their majority in Congress.

Oh, I hope so. I honestly thought that a lot of people hadn't forgiven him for his immigration bill BS, but it appears enough are willing to give him another chance. :cheersmate:

I don't see any results for atlanta yet. I hope they haven't jumped the gun. chambliss needed over 50% in a three way race to avoid a runoff.

reuters has joined fox in calling the GA senate race for chambliss

chambliss has fallen below the 50% threshold that would prevent a runoff: Georgia Elections Website (http://www.sos.georgia.gov/elections/election%5Fresults/2008%5F1104/swfed.htm)

chambliss is at 49.9%. the gap between him and getting over the 50% threshold is something like 4500 votes. jeebus, these things are all razor thin.

Chambliss will win on a recount. I know several conservatives that voted for Buckley due to Chambliss's bailout vote. They will vote Chambliss again the Dem.

I think you're probably right. I have much more confidence in chambliss coming out on top than I do coleman coming out on top in minnesota. that thing is headed for court, and then anything can happen.
I just noticed that bob barr got over 28,000 votes for president.
