Title: best site on which to watch the returns tonight
Post by: franksolich on November 04, 2008, 08:05:10 AM
I'm not interested in watching the returns on televison, or on video on the internet.

Does anybody have any suggestion as to a web-site that gives updated returns, without the bells and whistles, the pretty flashing lights?

The best site for watching the returns in November 2000 was the CBS site; it was great.

I was hoping they'd keep the same thing, but no, they changed it, more bells and whistles, pretty flashing lights, beginning in 2002; by 2004 it was utterly useless.

I don't think you are going to be able to avoid flashing lights this year.  jus' sayin'.  I will probably follow key states' returns at their secretary of state/board of elections websites, assuming that they are up.

You know, CBS was great in 2000.

There was a map of the United States.

One clicked on a particular state, and got the presidential, Senatorial (if any), House, gubernatorial (if any), and ballot issues (if any) returns, and it was updated, every single state, constantly.

Nothing fancy, very fast.

Fox News interactive election tracking map (http://elections.foxnews.com/states_map/index.html)

I don't know how good it is.

I'm actually going kind of miss Tim Russert and his whiteboard.  It was a bit hokey, but it brings back memories.

Ill be watching the returns as provided by my favorite talk radio station Over here (http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/files/specials/election_night_2008/election_map_basic/index.html?SITE=WTKKFM&SECTION=POLITICS)

I don't know how fast it will be, but it is a very bells-and-whistles free election results map.
