Myths That Must Die: "People are given jobs!"
What is it with the GOP who keep saying people are given jobs?
I'm watching the repeat of "Countdown" and one of the morans is saying something about how people are interviewed three times before being given jobs at McDonald's.
No one is "given" a job. Jobs are offered and people accept or reject them. But no one--no one--is given a job!
I wish the GOP-controlled media would stop pushing the lie that people are passive when it comes to earning a job (remember those three interviews to get a job at McDonald's?) and that somehow the corporation gives jobs to us poor slobs, who should be grateful for whatever pittance they see fit to trickle on us.

1. You are absolutely correct! I call bullshit to all of the right wingers who
believe that putting the money at the top creates jobs. Small business doesn't create jobs. Customers create jobs. Small business would have shit if people didn't buy from them. Don't tell me the middle class is the enemy of small business either. Corporations would put them out of business in a heartbeat if it were profitable. The Republicans would be right behind them too! Small business should dump the Republicans. Democrats do more for small business than anyone else.
The Chamber of Commerce just feeds the small businesses a load of crap. Most of the sb's buy it.

2. Thom Hartmann has been doing some work on this idea that corporations "create" jobs.
It's a vile supply side meme.
Demand creates jobs.

4. Au contraire...
...I've seen many scions of middle and upper class privilege who are indeed "given" jobs.
The thread de-evolves into posts about SSI and SSDI whatever that is.

26. I hear you. I'm on SSI. I'm mentally ill. Yes, and I live with my parents at age 26 because the jobs that I interviewed for never came through. I'd call and try to follow up, but I got the cold shoulder because of lack of experience (how do you get experience if you never get a job in the first place) or they don't care for mentally ill.
Some folks say, "Hey, you went to college, so you should be able to get and keep a job." It does NOT work that way. I went to a small college where I got a lot of help. Also, college is NOT like work at all.
Anyway, I got a job, but then I got an ovarian cyst and then a hernia, just ****ing pain in my stomach. I could not do the job, shelving books because bending over to put them on the shelf hurt too much. I got laid off.
Yeah, and my dad who is most of are income got laid off his full time job because of ageism. That's another piece of bullshit. He's only 59!
I guess it explains the high unemployment rate at the DUmp.
-
So on Christmas morning children are offered gifts that then choose to accept or reject huh?
Good God these fools cannot get any DUmber.
As far as this stupidity about "demand" creating jobs then I would like them to explain what happens if the product "demanded" can`t be produced for the amount that people are willing to pay for it.
The market has to be there and a person has to take an investment risk finding if there is one and then an investment risk in producing it at a cost people are willing to pay.
A bunch of folks wishing for a product at a certain price (for DUmmies this is either free or nearly free) never created one job on its own right,it happens only when the desire to prosper and the courage to risk failure seeks to answer that demand.
That is why they will always be freeloading losers whining about how tough things are for them.

"....and that somehow the corporation gives jobs to us poor slobs, who should be grateful for whatever pittance they see fit to trickle on us."
Yes, most definately, trickle on you........DUmmie.

They are DESPERATELY repeating this meme of their own, since the messiahnfuhrer repeats it so much.
It is wrong based on every known economic theory.

Kindo of depends on the labor market really...when the available work force for a given skill is at or near full employment, someone trying to fill a new position is indeed offering, even begging, the applicant. When there is plenty of labor available for it (like semiskilled or unskilled fast food workers) it is a lot more like 'Giving.'

And since we all know that DUmmies are really only best qualified to ask "Would you like fries with that?", then of course they would be confused by this concept.

It's amazing how the upper management at my company kept telling us during contract negotiation (recently concluded) how we were all lucky to even HAVE jobs and how they could get anyone on the street to do what we do.
Really? Is that why we've been looking for more electricians and relay techs for TWO YEARS and can't find any who will take the job and all the bullshit that comes with working in a nuclear power plant? Are you serious?
Is that why the company capitulated to what the union wanted and NOT change our medical benefits plan? Further giving us MORE and LARGER payraises than initially asked for, including a one-time bonus payable immediately if we ratify the contract next week?
I keep hearing how horrible it is out there, but frankly, if you're educated and willing to put forth a decent effort, it's not bad at all kids. Not bad at all.

See how EEO helps people get ahead?

I'm wondering what kind of issues this DUmmy has if he has to go to THREE interviews for a $6.50/hour job flipping burgers. Last time I interviewed, I went to ONE and was given a verbal offer THAT DAY, and a written offer by the end of the week.

They are DESPERATELY repeating this meme of their own, since the messiahnfuhrer repeats it so much.
It is wrong based on every known economic theory.
It is all part of their partioned mind way of thinking.
They assume an outcome with no input.
To them any given product is "magically" provided and if there is artificially provided a means to buy it at a price not established by any market then it will create jobs to dispurse and I guess at that point build more.
The fact that the product has to first be created at someones expense is forbidden to enter their thinking as that simple reality causes this whole stupid theory to collapse.
-
On further review, the OP in the DUmmie thread is likely one who isn't capable of HOLDING a job for more than one pay period due to his overwhelmingly asinine attitude wherein he constantly reminds others around (and particularly ABOVE) him of how lucky they are to have him around.
There was a guy like this in my shop recently. Dude was convinced he should have come in as a supervisor, not an electrician, despite his resume (Navy nuke) not being anything spectacular and those around/above him were far more qualifed and experienced.
He quit less than six months later, convinced we were all out to get him, that he was better than us, and that he'd be in management at his new job (another nuke plant) in no time.
Last I heard, he was on the verge of quitting there as well, less than six months in.

I bet in two years after the Obama has put unemployment towards european levels of 10% that they will change their tunes. No they won't as the government assistance will take care of them.

No, it won't. And the other 90 percent of us getting ****ed over daily will ensure that shit stops most ricky-tick.

I got laid off two weeks ago and had three offers in a week, all at or exceeding my current wage. No, it isn't really bad at all.
BTW, the job I took is within the same company. I'm heading to Iraq for a year and will be paid very nicely. My current bosses and I have already discussed my employment when I get back. I was only laid off because a large project died due to customer screw-ups.

I wish the GOP-controlled media
What planet is this asshat living on?
-
Been a while since I had to apply for a job, but the last time i gave THEM an offer. If they had not met the offer, I would have gone to the next employer. Jeez, these morons must not have any skills at all!
When I work, I work on my terms. It's called having a marketable skill you stupid asswipes!

I worked one day as a busboy for $1 an hour back in '68. One stinkin' day!
I figured out right a way there had to be an easier way to make a few bucks!

Well, while I know the situation there is much better than it was a couple of years ago, keep your head down, sir.

Since I've had to have two jobs the last couple weeks, I've had to cut my hours down there working instead of 12 to 9pm, 4 or 5 to 9 during the week. I went into my former job I'm leaving as of November 13th and asked 4 of the Obamunists if they had 40 hours. They said yes and I told them that since they had more hours than me (I had 22 for the week), that they needed to pool their hours together, and "spread the wealth" to me and other employees that didn't get a full 40 hours this week.
Hey, they better get used to the idea if the Obamessiah wins steals the election. :lmao:

How that that go over with them? H5, BTW, for the idea.

Should Obama win tomorrow (which I no longer believe will happen) it could be said that the American people gave him a job. With his experience and background it can't be said that he earned it.

I really have no idea who will win this...all the hinky stuff with voter registrations and stuff has me scared. I've never been overly worried about being on the losing side of an election before, but Obama and his minions scare me.

the honeymoon will be short. they have to remind him, as my mom said, "i brought you in, i'll take you out". he will be so beholden to special interests, it's not even funny.

Remember pelosi riding in on an ass and being ridden out on hers?
The MSM is truly liberal: they are racist as hell and only care about their own ass and will throw anyone and everyone under the bus to maintain their positions of power. There is no truer definition of a liberal.

Thom Hartmann has been doing some work on this idea that corporations "create" jobs.
It's a vile supply side meme.
Demand creates jobs.
Thom Hartmann is about as stupid as they come. Whenever I want to listen to someone who uses himself as his own authority, TH is the one with which to listen.
What Thom conveniently and consistently misses is that while demand for products and services might create jobs, unless someone is willing to invest capital to create the product or carry out the service, all the demand in the world won't do you any good. He just says you need demand and capital is insignificant. But, he's stupid.

I plan to keep low. The good thing is that as a civilian, I'm not expected to go under the wire. If they need me somewhere, they fly me there.

Yep, but since not many people have the first good clue as to how the food in there local grocery store "magically" appears there, we have DUmp monkeys. It fits in neatly with their two other idiotic theories. The first that the wealth is limited, when it is not in terms our minds can understand. The second that anyone who makes a profit from an employees work is a thief.
My FIL never finished high school. He owns a cabinet making factory now, and he owned painting company in the past. I'll bet he knows more about how the economy works than just about all the DUmmies put together.
