I, my wife and my mother made Halloween Costumes for our kids. I noticed that so far, we were the only ones who did so. Anyone else make their own or does everyone buy them?

MY WIFE, A FORMER CLOTHING DESIGNER, made up my Grandson's costume. He wanted to be the "Predator" as in the AH-NOLD film. She made up a real beaUTY from scrach. She'd win an award, if there was one, but I gotta say a 4'9" predator monster is more amusing up close than terrifying.

I made my kids costumes when they were little....but I knew how to sew.....didn't like it, but I did know how.
I don't think kids learn how these days. I had to take HomeEc in 8th grade....one semester of sewing and one of cooking.

My mom and grandmother would often get together and make costumes for my sis and I when we were itty bitty.
These days, though, we don't make our costumes as often. My sister still does it from time to time. Last year, she put together a modern-day frumpy Cinderalla (jeans, tank top with an opened button-down shirt and a bandanna on her head). As she had just given birth to Charlie, my nephew, she dressed him up as a little pumpkin to go with her costume. And bought a costume for the new dog in the family, Maddie (she was a mouse. :p )
I bought a costume this year, and am wearing it now, actually. I was SUPPOSED to be doing a ghost tour/pub crawl, but that was cancelled. I know of no other parties nearby, and if I did go downtown, I'd rather not be by myself, especially in this get-up. :(

I know, it makes me feel old that I made my kids costume now. So far, I have yet to see another home made costume. :(
When we told people that the costumes were home made, they were amazed. One person actually asked me where I bought my daughters as they were looking for that one and didn't see it in the store. I guess we did a pretty good job.

I was never interested in Halloween. I just don't know why, perhaps because the ghoulish stuff could enjoyed year around.

My mom made all my costumes except two growing up. Even as an adult I've gotten her to make a couple for me, but then I've also sewed my own.

I may buy an accesory here or there, but most of the time the kids come up with a costume out of something we have laying around the house.
Honestly, I'm not that into Halloween.

It wasn't for halloween but the last time I wore a costume for anything I went as a Colonial Marine from "Aliens" . Cosidering at the time I still had my equipment from the Guard it wasn't hard to make something up. I even made my own smart gun out of two toys I had around the house. I got an award for having best hall costume. All tha tmeans is tha tfor those walking around the Convention weaing a costume you got a ribbon for wearing the best one when they went looking around to judge.

Agreed -- it comes and goes and I don't even notice. Last year I had one kid, so I found a candy bar in the back of the freezer for him.
I haven't been to a Halloween activity of any kind in 30+ years.

We went to our local hangout restaurant. All the servers and some patrons were in costume. My friends' son and her niece (the college trip one) are servers there. Peter (he'll be 22 Christmas eve) was a rock star....including the tight knit zebra stripe pants with the "appropriately sized sock" in place....he's like a nephew to me....but it was tough not to look at the sock! Said he got some great tips from some women. Robyn wasn't working but she and a friend showed up in costume ....Robyn was a cop and Ashleigh was a nurse in black....neither one looked remotely like 17 and 20.
Sent cell phone pics to my son in NE and he wanted phone numbers until he found out their age!!!! As my other half said...they almost had clothes on.
We never wore costumes like that when we were young..... :o :o

I can't believe what some parents are putting on their kids these days, and it's Halloween isn't a good excuse.
Didn't get many kids last night in this area, apparently they all went to the malls, hardly anyone trick or treats homes anymore. Mine were the only ones in a home-made costume.
