another accidental moment of honesty by The BarackStar! of course, since it's barack obama, and he is smart and stuff, it is concluded that he must have been making a reference to an ayn rand book, instead of just being a socialist. :thatsright:
the equation of enjoying the fruits of one's own labor to selfishness fits very nicely into his comment about "spreading the wealth around". this guy needs to stop talking today, and hope he has enough to win on sheer inertia.
Obama's New Attack on Those Who Don't Want Higher Taxes: ‘Selfishness’
On the stump this week, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., has pushed back against Sen. John McCain's description of his tax policies.
"The reason that we want to do this, change our tax code, is not because I have anything against the rich," Obama said in Sarasota, Florida, yesterday. "I love rich people! I want all of you to be rich. Go for it. That’s the America dream, that’s the American way, that’s terrific.
"The point is, though, that -- and it’s not just charity, it’s not just that I want to help the middle class and working people who are trying to get in the middle class -- it’s that when we actually make sure that everybody’s got a shot – when young people can all go to college, when everybody’s got decent health care, when everybody’s got a little more money at the end of the month – then guess what? Everybody starts spending that money, they decide maybe I can afford a new car, maybe I can afford a computer for my child. They can buy the products and services that businesses are selling and everybody is better off. All boats rise. That’s what happened in the 1990s, that’s what we need to restore. And that’s what I’m gonna do as president of the United States of America.
"John McCain and Sarah Palin they call this socialistic," Obama continued. "You know I don’t know when, when they decided they wanted to make a virtue out of selfishness."

Someone go tell the 2 kids I sponsor through CCF, the homeless I feed through the Midnight Mission, and the sick kids I care for through St. Jude's how selfish I am. Not to mention the other causes I support.

He's just taking the mickey now, he must think he has it in the bag thanks to ACORN. :(

Don't, free. REally! :-*Nobody here or anywhere needs to prove their generosity. As you and I both know, good people quietly live their lives in charity of some kind, whether it is helping family members in need or actually donating time and money to a charity. I'm tired of conservatives being on the defense with this stuff. Nobody should be told by someone looking to dip his hands in the pockets of hard working Americans to support his socialist agenda, that they are selfish and being that most people do not like the finger pointed onthem with this, especially when they know they are not, I think this will backfire on him with most sensible people. They'll find him to be, if they haven't already, incredibly self-righteous.
That aside, good on you for donating as you do to people in need. As someone who has had to be the recipient at times as a mother of a child with autism, you should know the help is appreciated and well used. :cheersmate:

There's an inherent fallacy in The One's reasoning there, in that it ain't a 'middle class' unless there is something below it....kinda one of those "OMG, half of America's kids are below average!!!" things. Well of course they are...and half of them are above average.
The only societies where the poor were all brought into the middle class did it by moving the middle class down to meet them, not bringing the poor up - the Soviet Union and Maoist China, both of which still had privileged upper classes. Hell, even the Nazis weren't dumb enough to try that particular flavor of stupidity.

In fact, IIRC, Conservatives give way more to charities than liberals. There was a study done a few months ago...
And I do resent the fact that the messiahnfuhrer says that people who don't want the government to take money from those who earn it and give it to those who don't are somehow "selfish."
But it won't change how I give -- these charities are the ones that I think do real good in the world. They all make sure that most of the money goes to those who it is being given for. I spent a good researching charities to make sure they operate effectively.

Didn't Slick Willie raise taxes on almost everyone in '93? He also had the major benefit of the tech bubble to help the economy along after growing on the Reagan/Bush tax cuts. Unless Der Fuhrer has some new wonder technology or other industry to drive his economy then everything he says is just wishful thinking.
-
Thundly, you are spot on with that. The dotcom economy carried Slick Willey thru.. There is nothing on the horizon that wwould boost a Barry administration. It will require a lot of grunt work to get things working again, thanks to the likes of Franks, Dodd, Waters etal, and Barry's not a gruntt work kind of guy, is he?

He is attempting to make alternative energy the next dot com bubble.
Trouble is, unless you are an engineer with 20 years experience you are not going to make money from this any time soon and if you are a factory worker you will never see a job making wind turbines or the like as you cost too much for this sort of mundane manufacturing. Those jobs are gone forever same as happened to the ones in Europe that came here all those years ago.
Best bet is some next generation of aquaculture since the oceans are running low and people will be needing protein from somewhere.

Well, when's the Big Zero, Vast Teddy, Bela Pelosi, the Bostonian Billionaire, Alphonse Capote Gore, John Edwards, Bags Streisand, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Dianne Feinstein, Rosa de Lauro, Blarney Flank, Dan Rather, &c., &c., &c.--and among the wealthy primitives, the sparkling husband primitive, the Bostonian Drunkard, El Stupido Supremo, the grazing primitive, the packamama primitive, the carpetbagging maternal ancestress, the kaput primitive, the Swanson TV dinner primitive, &c., &c., &c.--going to stop being so selfish, and share some with us?

You know, since the last "energy shortage" the various companies have been working on electric vehicles. Now the Drteoit and Baker Electric cars from the WW1 era got 20 MPH and about 100 mi on a charge.
http://www.detroitelectric.org/
and the new best electrics go faster but give up range.
http://www.theirearth.com/index.php/news/elettrica-electric-car-italy
It takes big money to get range AND speed, but even then electrics look foolish by gas/diesel cars in terms of range and speed.

There will be solutions, but not in time for the NEXT administration!
Now, mini nuclear sources ARE available, but the pol's all cower in fear as the rest of the world moves forward.

Is there a cure for American politicians stupidity and cowardice?
