the hill for mccain to climb gets slightly steeper with every one of these decisions. why would a "voting rights" group want people that didn't live in CO anymore to be eligible to vote? there is only one explanation; to exploit the registration.
and what this judge did to provisional ballots is unconscionable. it onus is on the state to prove that they shouldn't count the vote, rather than on the voter to prove that it should. federal judges live in a theoretical world; as a practical matter, the counties don't have the manpower to examine every single provisional ballot, so the ultimate result of all of this is that mickey mouse will vote in CO, and his vote will count.
the "Help America Vote Act" has become the "Ensure Democrat Victory" act.
Colorado Agrees to Restore Voters to Rolls
DENVER — Tens of thousands of Coloradans who had been removed from the state’s voter rolls will be allowed to vote in next week’s election and given extra protections so their ballots are counted, under an agreement reached late Wednesday in federal court here.
The voters’ names had been removed by Mike Coffman, the Colorado secretary of state, who said he did so because the voters had moved out of state or were listed more than once on the rolls. But Mr. Coffman was sued by a coalition of voting rights and other groups who said such purges were generally prohibited by federal law within 90 days of an election.
Under the agreement, voters removed from the rolls will be permitted to cast provisional ballots, and those ballots will be counted unless election officials can prove the voters were not eligible. To strike such ballots, county election officials must conduct an extensive records review on each one, a decision that must then be reviewed by Mr. Coffman’s office.
“This is unprecedented,†said Elizabeth Westfall, a lawyer for the Advancement Project, a civil rights group that helped file the lawsuit. “We are really thrilled that there will be this degree of unprecedented scrutiny and protection for these purged voters when they cast their provisional ballots.â€
Mr. Coffman issued a statement Thursday saying he still believed that Colorado’s election practices adhered to federal law and that “our goal has always been to have a system in place where every voter, who has the legal right to cast a ballot, is allowed to do so.â€

It's too late for this election, but on November 5th, every single Sec. of State in the country should start purging the voter rolls.

most the SoS's that tried this year were challenged in federal court and stopped.

But most of them started trying to do it too close to the election. That 90 day rule is what has been catching most of them. Personally, I'd be happy to have all the voter lists purged of every voter and start from scratch, prove identity, citizenship, and place of residence.

a National ID law would stop most of this crap from meaning anything - either a valid drivers licence or state-issued photo ID card at no cost would do just fine.
It wouldn't stop all fraud, but I suspect this step would minimize the damage done by fraudulent votes, at only a nominal cost to the issuing state.

I don't think you would have to make it impossible. you would just have to make it a little difficult. but the way it is falling out in ohio right now, Mia's cat could vote in every county in ohio on tuesday.

I registered in Larimer county last year.
This year I'm in Weld county.
I did not re-register in Larmier, but Larimer still sent me a registration card for their county.
I may have been purged and not even have known it.
In my case this story may be good news.

If you can't vote early, then vote often. At least 2 X . :)

If Obama gets in Tuesday any effort to fix the problems won't happen. Count on it.

Fix it? He would exacerbate it. But I don't think he'll win the general election, and now I'm beginning to think he won't win Colorado, either:
http://www.elections.colorado.gov/DDefault.aspx
Ballots Returned by Mail or Early Vote BY PARTY ID ONLY. (as of 10/31) :
Statewide
Dems 488,575 37.6%
Reps 465,869 35.9%
Ind 336,511 25.9%
Barack Hussein Obama's going to need a lot more of crossovers and indys voting for him by Tuesday.

agreed. if the dems aren't cleaning up in the early vote, then he is probably in trouble.

You got that right. It is outright embarrassing to be an Ohio citizen these days.

No state requires that you prove citizenship prior to receiving a driver's license or a state issued ID card. Such cards merely indicate residency not citizenship.
