The conventional wisdom, which I share, is that Barack Obama will win this election, perhaps by a healthy margin. But Democrats are nervous wrecks; they're having nightmares that defeat will be snatched from the jaws of victory. To add to their misery (and guard against complacency), here's how that horror film could play out:
In the end, the problem was the LIVs. That's short for "low-information voters,"
the three fifths of the electorate that shows up once every four years to vote for president but mostly hates politics. These are the 75 million folks who didn't vote in the primaries. They don't read newsmagazines or newspapers, don't watch any cable news and don't cast their ballots early. Their allegiance to a candidate is as easily shed as a T shirt. Several million moved to Obama through September and October; they'd heard he handled himself well in the debates. Then, in the last week, the LIVs swung back to the default choice: John McCain. Some had good reasons other than the color of Obama's skin to desert him; many more did not. In October, a study by the Associated Press estimated that Obama's race would cost him 6 percent. The percentage was smaller, but still enough to give the presidency to McCain.

Please, all of you ... bring at least 5 friends to vote ... and give the GOP the RAPTURE they deserve !!!

6. This will be MSM narrative from here on out
They have grown bored talking about Obama winning so they will attempt to change the narrative of the campaign by playing Devil's advocate.
I know Alter is a Dem leaner which proves my point even further. There will be A LOT of discussion about tightening polls and "how can McCain win" this week. They all want to be the No. 1 most watched network on election night so the higher the level of suspense, the better the ratings.
And the best for last....

I don't get this:
In the end, the problem was the LIVs. That's short for "low-information voters," the three fifths of the electorate that shows up once every four years to vote for president but mostly hates politics. These are the 75 million folks who didn't vote in the primaries. They don't read newsmagazines or newspapers, don't watch any cable news and don't cast their ballots early. Their allegiance to a candidate is as easily shed as a T shirt.
Out here in the Sandhills of Nebraska, where McCain-Palin is expected to do 80% or better, nobody hates politics. They might think politics silly at times, but if politics is dealing with an important matter--which it isn't always--they pay attention.
They vote in the primaries, some places even during dull primaries having in excess of 90% of registered-voter turnout. And some of these people do that even though it means a 120-mile round trip to the polling place.
Annual surveys of readership, nationally, show that these people subscribe to, and read, newpapers and newsmagazines something like six times the usual readership in urban areas.
Cable television has always been the only show out here--long before cable came to Boston or Chicago or San Francisco--because with just an antenna, one's not likely to get anything, given the distances.
What is this "low information" crap?
Looking for "low information voters" in this 80+% McCain-Palin area is like hunting for turtles in Antarctica, or fishing for bass in the Gobi Desert.
I frankly suggest the guy who wrote this article look in more-fertile areas for "low information voters"--places such as Skins's island, the inner cities, Vermont, whatnot.

DU, just ate up with the stupid. If Obama loses, it will be for the same reason as the rest of the Democrats since Bill Clinton. They have to swing so impossibly far to the left to even get the nomination that they come off looking like charlatans and liars when they try to move to the middle for the general election.
The Republican nominee goes through a sililar process, however the swing isn't as far or as damning.
As an example. A democrat in the primary on abortion must be in favor of it, including tax payer funded, at any time up to three years of age. A republican can be generally opposed and still win the primary. Public opinion is generally opposed, especially to unlimited and tax payer funded abortion, so the reoublican doesn't need to move that postion much. The problem for the democrat nominee is that he has to do this with all of his issues to even hope to get elected.

We don't hate politics here in the Ozarks, but we are really pretty sick of the piss-poor assortment of out-of-touch, self-interested assholes that pass for the 'Politicians' running for most of our State and National offices on this ballot.

I think the phrase "low-information voter" suits anyone who wants change but doesn't take the time to see just what kind of change the Obamessiah is proffering.
They'll find out soon enough. :evillaugh:

Yesterday morning I took a long drive thru the mtns in the San Bernardino national forest. There are a lot of people that live in the Lake Arrowhead, Blue Jay, Twin Peaks and Running Springs area and I saw a LOT of McCain Palin yard signs. Actually I saw more on that drive than I have seen all together thru the whole campaign. And not a single Obamessiah sign. Not.even.one. That sorta surprised me as there are a lot of the Subaru 'Think Different' crowd living in that area. What really surprised me though was all the 'Yes On Prop 8' signs I saw. Thats a state ballot proposition to change the Calif constitution to make marriage between a man and a woman only. It is being fought harder than the presidential race is here in Ca.

We had 14 black folks working for us at the state fair. The racism/Obama thing did come up. One of the ladies was shocked I am not voting for Obama because "(I'm) such a nice person".
I didn't say much except that I cannot be a racist. I voted for Alan Keyes in his first primaries and BOTH his parents and ALL FOUR of his grandparents were black.

As for the term, "LIV", I believe that the writer meant that there are a significant number of folks that are just ill-informed and uneducated (when it comes to the political races). There's another significant portion that are just plain apathetic towards politics. So...... these people just go by what they hear from others, regardless of the quality of the content. Yeah, THAT'S what we need from the electorate!! :whatever:

Im impressed that
Newspeak Newsweak Newsweek pick up on the new PC term for dumb from the leftists, 'Low Information' , anything to give the left and its dialogue legitimacy, I suppose.

Fixed. :II: The Left doesn't dialogue. It preaches; it rants; it protests; it weeps, wails and gnashes it's teeth; but it never dialogues with the opposite side.

Uhhhh .... that article didn't mention the other part of that poll;
PRINCETON, NJ -- While 6% of voters say they are less likely to vote for Barack Obama because of his race, 9% say they are more likely to vote for him, making the impact of his race a neutral to slightly positive factor when all voters' self-reported attitudes are taken into account.
Wonder if they are ok with racism now?

I propose an alternative: SFS: Stupid ****ing Shits.
Anyone that would vote for a 144-day old Senator dilettante who gave a good speech once and is known to have DIRECT associations with terrorists (the latest being his dining and with Kalik whatshisface in 2001) and anti-American commies (20 years of Wright?) and plans that are pure and simple Communism is too stupid to be trusted with this country.

Unfortunately, the Constitution works both ways. People have freedom, even if they use that freedom to be useless blathering assholes.
Am I pissed that my vote is going to be cancelled by some doddering old fool who still thinks FDR and JFK were the cat's ass, or some pink-haired metrosexual douchebag who only wants someone else to do the work they're too lazy/stupid/useless to do themselves? You betcha. Consequently, I can imagine they're pissed that THEIR votes are being cancelled out by people who, when times are tough, don't quit, don't bitch, cowboy the **** up and get the job done, and have damned little sympathy for those who won't (notice I didn't say COULDN'T) pull their weight.
Unfortunately, I can't change the world, just my little corner of it. I start small, and work my way up. That's how it goes.

There is no Constitutional rule against being stupid. There is a Darwinian one, but that won't kick in until the USA is Canada writ large. After which, it will be too late.

You mean all the blacks in Harlem that said they were for Obama and his running mate Sarah Palin? Oh damn that was funny! Of course calling ignorant Obama supporters in Harlem 'low information voters' is racist I am sure. :whatever:
