Ohio State vs. Penn State - Preview
http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/gamecenter/preview/NCAAF_20081025_PSU@OHST

Quote
Penn State put an end to one long skid last weekend, halting a nine-game losing streak to one Big Ten nemesis to stay at the forefront of the national championship picture.

If Joe Paterno's team has designs on staying there, it has a few more historical hurdles to overcome this week.

Sole possession of first place in the Big Ten will be on the line Saturday at Ohio Stadium, as the third-ranked Nittany Lions look to snap a 10-game road losing streak against ranked opponents and beat No. 10 Ohio State in Columbus for the first time since 1978.

Gotta love college ball where every game counts. However, some games count more than others and this one is a biggie. I'm confident in my Buckeye's (and more so when braggin on them online) but my magic eight ball says "outlook murky". This one will be a fight and thank God it's in Columbus.

Go Bucks!!

Nah, too many bad memories.

When I was a youth, I spent many Thanksgivings and Christmases in northeastern Pennsylvania, with my maternal grandmother.

There were lots and lots and lots of cousins my age or near my age.

They all ended up graduating from Penn State, while I was the only graduate of the University of Nebraska.

As you perhaps already know, Penn State cheated one time (the referee moved one of the sidelines); that was during the 1980s.  And then during the 1990s, Penn State like Alphonse Capote Gore trying to steal Florida, tried to steal the national championship, and like Alphonse Capote Gore failed, but it was close-run thing.

Also, as a teenager, I once attended a game at State College, where Penn State was playing some small team, and pounding the Hell out of them.  Being a Nebraska fan, and young, I had always assumed other fans were like Nebraska fans, full of class and good will and all that towards opponents.

The score got to be something like 54-3, Penn State, and the Penn State fans got ruder and ruder and ruder, booing and hissing and jeering the outmanned members of the losing team.

That was just really ****ing disgusting.

Penn State fans have as much class as primitives on Skins's island.

In truth, I mildly dislike Colorado with a little bit more intensity, but Colorado's one of us, and so one has to put up with Colorado.

Sore winners never win, really.

That's Penn State and Colorado in a nutshell.

The reason I enthusiastically like Ohio State is because the Omaha World-Herald used to hire its major sportswriters out of Ohio (I have no idea why, but there you have it), and as a consequence the newspaper covered Ohio State games pretty comprehensively, even more so than other games in the Great Plains.

And so as a young impressionable lad, I developed a liking for Ohio State.

And there's the historical things to consider: (a) the Nebraska football program until that rectal aperture destroyed it--45 years of outstanding success gone down the sparkling husband primitive's commode in the basement--was based upon, evolved from, Ohio State, and (b) the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry is the most important, most famous, rivalry in the history of college football.

Woody Hayes was the greatest, behind only Bear Bryant of Alabama.

That's all good stuff. I do think PSU's fans are like Eagle's/Steelers fans or worse.

There is truely a lot to be said for tradition as well and OSU and Nebraska are two of a handful of pillars on that sometimes, seemingly fading view of college ball. Anyway, glad to have your vote and I hope "my" guys don't let you down.

BWHAHAHAHAHA  :loser:

Penn State 13-6 sole possession of first place in Big Ten. I am hoping the get a shot at the championship so JoPa can retire on top.

I like that heads up play when they punched the ball out of QBs hand and instead of allowing the buckeyes to fall on it he knocked it back out of his reach.

You must be the super genius who voted for Penn State after the game was over.  :whatever:

Yeah that was a heads up play and a big freshman mistake by Pryor who tried to go outside. Now I'm forced to root for PSU just so tOSU can have a shot at the Rose Bowl.

One question, do you really think Joe would retire if he won it all? I wonder if he would just take it as proof that he's still got it and sign a 5 year contract. LOL

I watched the end of the game since I was watching Bama beat up on the Vols.  Saw PSU bring in the new QB and score and the rest of the game after that.  OSU QB tried to do too much at the end, should have just taken the middle of the field (PSU was giving it up in favor of defending the sidelines and endzone) and at least tried to score within 20 yards instead of 40+.  Oh well, when I went to the PSU-Illini game earlier this year, they definately had a good team, you could tell.  We'll see if they can make it to the BSC Champ game.  About the only team who could possibly beat them is Mich State, and I doubt they can do it.

Me too. Instead of that though, maybe I'll just try and bring this thread back next year when they meet again.  :p
