Bernanke gives nod to more government stimulus

WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke told Congress Monday a fresh round of government stimulus is a good idea because there's a risk the country's economic weakness could last for some time.

Bernanke's remarks before the House Budget Committee marked his first endorsement of another round of energizing stimulus, something that Democrats on Capitol Hill have been pushing. The Bush administration, however, has been cool to the notion.

"With the economy likely to be weak for several quarters, and with some risk of a protracted slowdown, consideration of a fiscal package by the Congress at this juncture seems appropriate," Bernanke said in prepared testimony to the panel.

A trio of hard blows from the housing, credit and financial crises has badly pounded the economy.

Many analysts predict the economy will shrink later this year and early next year, meeting the classic definition of a recession. Some believe the economy already jolted into reverse during the July-to-September quarter.

He's not.  But it's almost like the Bush administration is taking a dump in the punchbowl in anticipation of Obama getting in the White House.

Enough already!!!!!!! Let the damn market repair itself.

I got there, too.  taking extreme measures to keep the market from crashing and most of the banks in the country from going under seemed like a necessary evil, but now we are talking about cars and credit cards, and now another "stimulus".

screw it.  let go "splat".  the only downside there is that president obama would have precisely the catastrophe he would need to implement every social engineering experiment that has ever been dreamed of.

it's just a doo-doo burger.

^ROFL! We just say, "the crap fairy was here and she left you a present..."

You're right, this is exactly the kind of "disaster" the liberals need to ram their scary socialist agenda down our throats. We're well and truly screwn. ;-)
