I would recommend against using this song. It would only give the libtards ammo to further their Sarah bashing.

you can do the song if you exchange those lyrics for your own....I wouldn't use that verse.

I'm only a harmonica player in a third-rate rock and blues band. Play the song. Nobody will notice the lyric, anyway.

How about "she's a man eater"?  ;)

No, screw what people said about "ammo" to the libs -- they already hate her.  It is like "making the mooslims hate us."

Go with your original idea.

Yeah.  Pretty inappropriate, kinda like playing "Horizontal Bop" at a Bill Clinton fundraiser.  Just really not the right tone to set.

Try the Dixie Chicks 'Ready to Run'.The Dixie Clits have been in the 'sin bin' for long enough although if you use one of their tunes they will likely blow a gasket ?

They still don't play the Dixie Chicks on the 3 stations I listen to.  One of them tried to and they were flooded with complaints.

My band is playing a McCain/Palin fundraiser next weekend.  We've been learning and practicing some new songs for it.

We want to do one for Sarah, and are thinking we'll do the old Steppenwolf tune "Straight Shootin' Woman".  This is a hard song because it has horns in it, so we got two horn players to volunteer, and the vocals are so raspy we told Tom he'll have to up his cigarettes to 6 packs a day to get the right sound...

HOWEVER, there is a verse in the song, that some of the guys think may be "inappropriate" for the audience and for Sarah Palin in particular...

A not so veiled sexual innuendo.  I think we should do the song, it's only rock n' roll.  What do you guys think?

To be honest, no matter what the lyrics, that song sucks.

Get everyone fired up to donate, play "American Woman"

I just tripped over their songs going over my computer music library and played a few of my old favorites.

Hey, it's a great song.  We played it last night and everybody loved it.  It's too old for most of them to have known what it is, but they liked it anyway.

Since the fundraiser is outside, we'll be using our PA system, and we decided that nobody will be able to understand the lyrics anyway, so we're gonna do it.

American Woman is a good suggestion though Rob.  I know the song but the "kids" in the band do not.  If I can get them to learn it by next weekend, we'll do it.

I am sure the song sounded ok. It just would not be my first choice.

On top of the fact that I am the only one here that has the balls to give you a hard time, LOL

Have a great Sunday!

This could of been a great topic of the day for one of your day threads!

Ahem...if you are talking about "American Woman" by the Guess Who, you  may want to research that a little bit. The Guess Who were a Canadian band that were strongly opposed to the Vietnam war in the 60's and 70's. American Woman was written to tell America to keep her influence away from Canada and the rest of the world for that matter.
Do not get me wrong here - I used to have every album released by the Guess Who and Burton Cummings was a helluva song writer as was Randy Bachman but that one song, while I liked the tune, I hated the Guess Who for writing it and for it becoming a big #1 hit in the U.S.
