My RW boss is not happy with me at all.

I am the 'new hire' at a firm which is mostly full of RWers. They love to yammer on and on about politics, because everyone largely feels the same way, and so it becomes a big agreement party. I'm the type of guy who prefers to observe rather than participate, so I generally sip my coffee and just listen to the all the anti-Obama rhetoric.

Anyway, I figured it was coming, the day when one of these guys would get around to asking me who I was voting for. And it happened this morning after a staff meeting had just ended. There were 7 of us in the conference room.

"What did you think of the debates last night?" the boss asked me.

"It was one of the more interesting ones I've seen," I said. "There was a lot of good back-and-forth."

"Who do you think won?" he pressed.

"I think both candidates did what they had to do," I said. "McCain had to attack because he's so far behind, and Obama had to stay on message because the economy will help him pull it out. I don't think we'll know who won, quote/unquote, until the election."

"Well I thought McCain took it to him," he said.

I sipped my coffee and nodded. He just stared at me.

"So who are you voting for?" he finally asked.

"Obama."

He screwed up his face like he had found a cockroach in his soup. "Do you realize we're a small business? Obama is going to destroy us with small business taxes if he's elected!"

"I don't see that happening," I said. "Every president has grandiose plans, but if Obama is elected, by the time his policies make it through the Congress, they will be somewhat diluted. I don't think it will be as bad as you think. You've built a very strong business here and I believe you have the good judgement to see it through any rough times." (I was trying to stay polite, it's not good business practice to school your boss, especially in front of the other rank-and-file.)

"We'll I'll tell you what I think," he said. "I think you just voted yourself out of a job first here if we experience a downturn." Everyone started squirming in their chairs.

"Jobs come and go," I said. "But there's only one America. And I think it's in trouble. But you do what you have to do. I trust your judgement." He got the last word in (as bosses do) and broke up the meeting.

He's an ok guy, for a closed-minded RWer, but I didn't appreciate the shot across the bow. The good news: I have roughly 6 months of salary saved up and get offers every month from competitors. Plus my freelance consulting at night is starting to exceed my day job rate anyway.

I know some of you will flame because I didn't get up and storm out and all that, but I'd rather see if he's serious. Because Obama is going to win. And I defy him to look at my numbers and cut me loose first. I work circles around these guys and the clients love me. They'll follow me wherever I go. Basically, I tried to emulate Obama... stay calm, don't take the bait, think of the big picture.

Anyway, done rambling. Back to being a stubborn cog in the RW machine.

(edited for bad grammar)

They are all sooooo cool.   :lmao:

I wonder how much of his current employer's resources have been hijacked to support that 'Freelancing?'

43. Your boss exhibited bad form.
First, he should not be pressing his employees on their political views.

Also, he shouldn't inform an employee (in front of the entire staff) that he/she would be the first to be laid off!

I would never treat an employee that way.

Good luck to you.

This from the people who claim all RW'ers should be shot because they advocate the WAR!!!!!!!  They advocate TORTURE!!!!!

What dipshits.

Of course you wouldn't DUffne08.  You have to have a job and then own a business to have employees.

Hell, he's probably selling the chicken parts out the back door for that matter.

Well, that was when his 'freelance' work really started paying off.

The next thread on this topic will be "My RW boss fired me and I'm suing" followed by "The judge awarded me the company, so I cut costs while going green, tripled everyone's salary, and am happy to pay excessive amounts of corporate taxes in order to help support the needy in the country."

.

Sounds like the acid kicked in after the first quote, if it was an "Employment at will" state.

Someone just screwed up.

Or doesn't realize they just admitted that Obamas policies are bad and need to be "somewhat diluted", and then went on to hint at rough times ahead.

That can't happen.  You didn't even read the post did you?!

This DUmmie is indispensable at its office.  The place it works only survived and thrived until it got there and now it can't survive without the DUmmie.  It will leave and take ALL the clients with it then ..... it will be all over for the business owners and ALL the other workers.

Sheesh.  READ THE POST!!!!11111!!!1

This past May. My supervisor was/is a RW "Born Again" Fundie Dittohead,And I am a Deadhead.

I Guess he did'nt mind paying $5700 (3 Mo.Severance) so he would'nt have to have another "Liberal Obama Supporter" driving one of his delivery trucks...What he would not tell my current employer is that in 37 years of driving all kinds of things (V-Dubs to Dump Trucks) and over 3 Million miles OTR I have Never damaged ANY Vehicle,My own,My employers or anyone elses. He will not tell you that I have NEVER placed an Ins.Claim nor had a claim placed aginst me.No DUI/Drugs Ever. All he had to say is that I had a "Poor" Attitude
Hummm....Extremists scare me,especially when Fueled by Religion

You have the patience of a saint,I would have not so kindly told Your Boss that there is a Merle Haggard song that should shed some light on what he could do with his "Job"

OMG that is too funny!

Double mole because I've yet to find a job ANYWHERE which will give you three months severance unless you're the friggin CEO.  If you're lucky and get laid off you might get two weeks pay.

There are a few, but they are rarely business owners, they are politicians and other government workers.

My dh has a friend who was out delivering some yard signs for the some local dems to some other homes.    My dh said "oh you're working for the campaigns?" the response was "no, I work for the county and my boss told me to deliver the signs"
