Uh, guys? Tonight I've had to face the truth that I'm a stone Alchy, and if I don't stop drinking,

I'll probably die soon.

AA is not the answer for me, because of all that Higher Power stuff.

The fight starts tomorrow. Wish me luck.

While I always hesitate to knock people who finally take that big step...it has always seemed goofy to me to come to the DUmp and ask for advice with a very serious and personal problem.

2. Thank you. My higher power might be the Earth and the wind, because I'm
 half Indian.
I hope they can help me.

Have we ever heard this claim from him? Ever?

In addition, this probably eans he will have to cut off all contact with his BFF TominTib.  Hanging out with an avowed and unrepentant alchoholic is a bad idea.

I'm not gonna knock him...It takes a real man to know when he's over his head and to ask for help from whatever power he believes in! I wish redstone luck with his battle.....the bottle is a bitch to beat!

Tomorrow never comes.  If he'd said "Tonight" or "Right now" he would have had about ten times more chance of making it.  Well, good luck to him anyway.

I'm thinking he's probably in the bottle right now DT! One last one you know?

I agree.  He is going to need every last bit of strength to beat this.  Best of luck to him.

First, quit the DUmp.

That will be a huge first step... no first leap.

Good luck dude, I think acknowledging the problem is a good thing..

One of my best friends died 39 days ago from drinking and yes we all tried to get him to at least slow down but that was to no avail, so yes Redstone you dipshit DUmmie go and live with it!

Guys, as much as I can't stand the bird-smacking DUmb****'s rants, I dearly hope he beats this.

My bil's battle with alcoholism is one of the things that created the complications that sent him to his death Jan. of this year. Along with smoking and hard living in general that complicated hepetitis he contracted during an operation in the 70's. It indeed was not pretty and at some point, he gave up and just drank when he could, albeit with blacking out from lack of oxygen, he rarely would finish a beer. He stayed with us for about a week just 3 weeks or so before his death and my husband had to end up taking his oldest brother to the hospital because he kept passing out right in a chair. I'm glad my other half at least got the time he did with his brother since they did a lot of talking in the week. Ultimately, he died of pneumonia, but was in so much pain before that.

All that said, I hope Redstone beats this thing. His family do not want to see him in the condition my bil was in at the end. Good luck to you, Redstone, and by all means take the help wherever you can get it. Maybe your 'higher power' is working through AA. Don't reject help.

As a recovering alcoholic myself (2 1/2 years no drinky). I do wish him luck. It may take several tries over several years before he gets clean but I wish him the best. I know what he's facing and much of it is not pleasant but it is better than the alternative.

That's exactly what it sounded like to me, anyway.

I hate his politics, and he has written some moronic posts, but I hope he finds the strength to fight this.

Great work FlaGator!  Sometimes I'm just glad to make it through the next hour without indulging in my addiction.  I hope Redstone has the support structure in place to help him and I do truly hope he gives a 12 step program a fair shake.  1 year and 1 month clean and sober for me and I work at it every day.  Best of luck to Redstone.

We certainly live in a flawed universe if indeed there is no power higher than Redstone.

When he gets sober .... what will his CC name be?  No way you can be sober and a DUmmie.

I don't think he will have any success at all until he figures out he is NOT in fact the highest power on Earth. :(

That was pretty much what I was thinking.  If I were a lib, I'd be a drunk, too.  When you wake up everyday looking for a reason to be miserable, you need to drown it somehow.

I do wish him my best and the best of strength with battling this disease. I have known and worked with many addicts and I can say with confidence that addiction is a serious matter. Alcoholics will destroy their lives and the lives of their loved ones just to feed that disease.
