I've argued for years on political boards that fascism was solidly based on liberalism and even "progressive" movements. The lefties like to call conservatives "fascist" but every time I hear it I have to laugh... at their complete ignorance.
I won't go into my usual diatribe explaining why liberalism is fascism because now I don't have to. Someone has finally authored a book that's well researched which draws the parallels.
You can read a review here: http://hiram7.wordpress.com/2008/01/22/liberal-fascism-the-secret-history-of-the-american-left-from-mussolini-to-the-politics-of-meaning/
You may also find the book on Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/Liberal-Fascism-American-Mussolini-Politics/dp/0385511841?tag=word08-20
