ATHENS, Ala. -- Three men suffered burns and one lost a finger when a moonshine still exploded at a residence in Athens. Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely said the men were making home-made wine in a 25-gallon still when it blew up and splashed them with hot mash. It happened Saturday night.
Blakely said the three sought treatment at an Athens hospital. Doctors thought the injuries were odd and called the sheriff's office. The owner of the house lost part of his finger and suffered 3rd degree burns.

That is a bummer.
I think if someone makes personal booze for personal consumption then the gummit should stay the hell out of it.
And these kinds of accidents may happen - which is why, from time immemorial, stills are set a good distance from the home.
I hope these guys pull through OK.

Anybody that doesn't understand the basic chemistry, and basic physics involved in moonshine making has no business operating a still.
Every still I've ever made, or purchased from a retail store has had a mechanism that will vent pressure in the case that the condenser output is blocked, or someone's tried to make a partial pressure setup and closed the system.
