Title: CNN poll : Round 1 in debates goes to Obama (No, I am not kidding)
Post by: Wretched Excess on September 27, 2008, 06:21:12 PM

for cnn to think that mccain won a debate, I suppose obama would have to burst into tears and ask for his mommy,
or show up drunk.

Round 1 in debates goes to Obama, poll says

OXFORD, Mississippi (CNN)  -- A national poll of people who watched the first presidential debate suggests that Barack Obama came out on top, but there was overwhelming agreement that both Obama and John McCain would be able to handle the job of president if elected.

The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey is not a measurement of the views of all Americans, since only people who watched the debate were questioned and the audience included more Democrats than Republicans.

Fifty-one percent of those polled thought Obama did the better job in Friday night's debate, while 38 percent said John McCain did better.

Men were nearly evenly split between the two candidates, with 46 percent giving the win to McCain and 43 percent to Obama. But women voters tended to give Obama higher marks, with 59 percent calling him the night's winner, while just 31 percent said McCain won.

"It can be reasonably concluded, especially after accounting for the slight Democratic bias in the survey, that we witnessed a tie in Mississippi tonight," CNN Senior Political Researcher Alan Silverleib said. "But given the direction of the campaign over the last couple of weeks, a tie translates to a win for Obama."

Lemme guess.  The poll was conducted in Detroit and Chicago.

I have heard this one CNN clip at least a hundred times today on nearly every radio or television station I turned to.

It's not too obvious that the Commie News Network is trying to hammer this into everyones minds, is it ?

LOL!  and here is a story that was written to create the very thing that is ostensibly reporting.  the MSM is in full
blown spin mode.  this is like the umpire in a baseball game suddenly putting on one team's uniform . . .

Who won debate? TV pundits don't agree on a winner

NEW YORK (AP) — It was hard to tell if there were more disagreements voiced during the presidential debate between John McCain and Barack Obama or after it on television.

The networks' pundits moved quickly Friday to put into perspective a debate seen by tens of millions of Americans, although a clear winner didn't emerge. It was a reflection of cautiousness, the closeness of the race and the influence of furious spinning by both campaigns.

"There was no knockout, and maybe no knockdown, but McCain was on the offensive throughout," commentator William Kristol said on Fox News Channel.

His fellow panelist, Juan Williams, quickly retorted, "I thought Barack Obama put John McCain on the defensive all night."

David Gergen, CNN analyst, said, "McCain needed a clear victory tonight and I think that eluded him."

I caught the aftermath on CBS where they explained how they measured their Focus Group, and then demonstrated the process by showing a replay of Barack getting a huge up line and McCain's see sawing.

Then they "Interviewed" on of the focus people who was from Chicago, was an Obama supporter and who explained that he thought it was just like the Nixon Kennedy debates with John McCain as Nixon and that Obama so totally won it YEAH GOBAMA!!!!1111

Then they went back to the talking heads. :whatever:

THATS the reason I will no longer watch network news.

I've been watching it on YouTube.  McCain is cool, collected, has his stuff together.  Obama is angry and confused...even after all his studying the last few days. (Did anyone have any doubts why he wouldn't postpone this?  He's been cramming like crazy.)  McCain grins, Obama scowls.  I think it was McCain, hands down.

I'm with ya.  I gave up television for a year after bill clinton won the first time.  well, other than sports.  :-) no kidding.  I figured it had to be someone's fault, so I decided to blame the media.  plus, I just couldn't stand to see that man as president.

I just stopped watching the news, and kept on watching entertainment TV... Then got re-hooked to FOX several months later. But that day was a very bad day for me - not just because of the election.

O RLY?

CNN’s Poll vs. CNN’s Spin (http://www.commentarymagazine.com/blogs/index.php/pollak/33632)
Quote
CNN’s poll of debate viewers blares a puzzling headline: “Round 1 in debate goes to Obama, poll says.”

But the poll itself actually doesn’t say that. This is blatant editorializing on the part of CNN. The first problem is the numbers.  Buried way, way down at the bottom of the story — hopefully, one surmises, past the point where anyone would read — is the following:

Quote
The results may be favoring Obama simply because more Democrats than Republicans tuned in to the debate. Of the debate-watchers questioned in this poll, 41 percent of the respondents identified themselves as Democrats, 27 percent as Republicans and 30 percent as independents.

very interesting -- Id say its safe to assume there was no change anywhere except for independents. if we assume a sample size of 100 Obama gained 10 of the indies and McCain gained 11. When its sliced that way, McCain wins- but just barely.

I did the same thing and couldn't stand Clinton. It was a tough 8 years. For years I kept a stress ball near the set. Whenever I saw Clinton on the screen, I'd do target practice, usually got him on the nose with the soft missive. It just made me feel better.

Also I cancelled the stupid lib rag, the STLPost Dispatch. SR got a subscription when he came here, just loves to read a paper in the am before work. I just went along for the coupons.  :-)

Every cable news channel, including FOX, is giving it to Obama. ::)

I must admit that Obama did better than I thought he would.  But my expectations were pretty low to begin with.

Personally, I though it was a draw.

The obama camp had been playing down the debate from the beginning.  They wanted expectations to be low.  That way if he was even at a marginal level, he would have "exceeded expectations"...kinda like a student tellling you they expect to fail an exam and then being praised for making a C-.

Drudge posted a Sept. 22 Washington Times article about the Obama camp "wisely lowering their expectations" for the debates.

The article was pulled (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/sep/22/candidates-prep-for-first-presidential-debate/) a couple hours after posting.  Good luck finding a copy of it in the WT's online archives.
