Fantastic, fantastic, FANTASTIC!!! This was one of the best films I've ever seen. My wife and I went last night and the place was packed. Throughout the film, people laughed, cried and gasped (particularly at the climax of the train scene). The story is very moving with lots of emotional ups and downs. At the end, many people (myself included) applauded. This is Minnesota. We don't clap at the end of films here, but we did with this one. It was THAT good. I highly recommend it.

Never heard or read (until now) anything about "Fireproof" but it looks pretty good from the trailer.

Facing the Giants was/is an AWESOME movie!

You know what I thought was really cool? The losers on the online gossip rags were making fun of Kirk Cameron because he won't kiss any actress except his wife Chelsea Noble. They actually had her come in to film the kissing scenes so he wouldn't have to kiss another woman. That is just about the sweetest thing I have heard of!

He must be a closet ghey.

I've heard of Christian men who won't, say, go to a business dinner with another woman alone...they'll only go if there is a group, no matter how innocent it is. It's a sign of their intent to never cheat, even just by "lusting." Very cool, in my opinion.

Sounds pretty good. Not sure if I'll make it to the theater for it though.
My parents' church was selling tickets to the movie for this weekend. I don't know if they have saw it today or if it's tomorrow. I can't wait to get their take on it.

Unsurprisingly, I can find no mention of this movie on the DUmp. I bet even their "Christian" users are avoiding it like the plague.
-
That looks like a pretty good movie. I don't think I'll get to see it on the big screen, but I'll keep an eye out for it to hit PPV
-
My wife and I know of one person (an old college friend of hers who she hadn't seen in about 12-13 years) who drove 90 miles to see this film. You don't have people doing that with films that suck.

Even their first movie, "Flywheel," was pretty good. They were obviously filming with a cheap camera in spots, but the story and plot were great. My kids love them both. We can't wait for Fireproof to hit DVD. (Certainly can't swing theater tickets for everyone right now.)

I don't expect it will get a release here but I'll look out for the DVD, I enjoyed 'Flywheel' (which I saw on TV) so I'll definitely see something else by the same filmmakers.

It's success appears to have stumped Hollywood big-wigs. :lmao:
Hollywood Wonders Why Fireproof Did So Well (http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/hollywood-wonders-why-fireproof-did-so-well/)
A big surprise at the box office this weekend was the 4th place opening of Provident/Samuel Goldwyn's Fireproof, the small budget and limited release pic about a firefighter who recommits to his marriage and his faith. The movie is the latest from Sherwood Pictures, a nonprofit ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia, that previously put out the popular Facing the Giants and the lesser-known Flywheel. Samuel Goldwyn Films is the theatrical distributor, while Provident Films handled Fireproof's outreach and marketing to Christian audiences. It debuted to a $2.3M Friday and $2.6M Saturday for a $6.5M gross weekend though released into only 839 dates and costing just $500K.

I found Flywheel on DVD at Wal-Mart.

Domestic Total as of Sep. 28, 2008: $6,514,000 (Estimate)
Production Budget: $500,000
Boom! Dere it is!
And check out the per theater take:

It probably would've been in the #2 spot had it opened in more theaters.

Update.
"Fireproof" remains in the top 10 for its second weekend, taking in another $4M+ and bringing its grand total to nearly $12.5M! It has surpassed "Facing the Giants'" lifetime earnings and now sits in the top 10 for Christian films on Box Office Mojo.
Over the next two weeks, the creators will be adding over 300 new theaters nationwide to the release. Awesome!
Stand back, folks. God is WORKING!

He always does. :)

Kirk Cameron did not take a salary for his role, he asked that money be donated to a not-for-profit camp that he and his wife run for terminally ill children in Georgia.

I read somewhere that everyone in the movie decided not to take any money for their work.
