I lie to my mom a lot.
Well, not neccesarily lie. Just extend the truth. Or omit details. Like, I'm going to a burlesque workshop tonight. It's about the art form, it's not a striptease class. And it's for youth, ages 15-25. But, I'd rather not get into an argument about how inappropriate it might be, so I just told her I'm going to a theatre workshop.
Yes, I'm aware of the fact that it makes me a horrible child. But everything seems to freak her out. It's weird - she complains that I don't tell her enough, but when I do tell her things, she either gets personally offended, or disapproves of everything I do.
Edited to fix really dumb spelling error. I'm smarter than that, I swear!

Part of being a teenager is becoming your own person and making your own decisions independently of your parents. Ideally a parent would understand and support that, but it's pretty common that they don't and dishonesty follows.
Just make sure you don't compromise your safety in asserting your privacy.

that being said, i'm pretty surprised that you can sign up for a burlesque workshop without parental consent when you're underage.
my mom and i have a great relationship, and i don't lie to her. then again i don't really have anything to lie about. i don't go out and get wasted or high, and i'm a pretty responsible person.

You're lucky to have a good relationship with your mom. I consider myself a pretty good kid (Don't drink, do drugs, or anything like that), but I definitely have my flaws. I wish I could get along with my mom better, I really do.
And you are very mature and responsible. I wish I could be more like you!

I tell Granny I'm going to a nature preserve to volunteer and enjoy the woods for a week.
I tell my Mother that I'm going to a nudist gay hippie commune on work scholarship, to enjoy the "natural scenery" (she laughs), good food, unlimited marijuana, and listening to the drum circle while staring up at the absolutely beautiful stars and breathing the fresh air.
I miss that place, and I can't go like I normally do this fall because work is having issues.

worshipping the Old Gods with a Wiccan coven. It was a MENSA special interest group so I could validly tell her I was going to a Mensa meeting, I just neglected to explain what we did. I omit details to my husband as well. He doesn't need to know everything that I do. Sorry, I don't think you are a horrible child at all. Just trying to preserve some privacy and personal freedom.

When my sisters were 15 they were in to softball, basketball, and cheerleading. They weren't into strip-teasing. I don't believe leftymom would know normal if it slapped her in the face. Or climbed on top of her daughter. :mental:

But guess what, dumbass, part of being a minor is doing what your parents tell you to do even if you don't like it. Up to 11:59:59 p.m. the day before your 18th birthday, you're theirs to control. To do the things you want to do, you're subject to the leeway they afford you.
That being said, doesn't this stripper training business have some sort of consent form parents of minors need to sign? Or is Canada really, really lax in that department?

Lots of people who grew up in one-parent households turn out fine. But it seems like when there is some sort of behavior issue or sex issue, the dad is absent. Sometimes when I bring this up, those who DID grow up in one-parent households may take offense.

H5 from me. I have three boys and if I found them doing anything remotely close, they would be the ones to get BS. I can't fathom how anyone would consider this normal. As far as I'm concerned, as long as MY kids are living in MY house, under MY care, protection and responsibility, their private life consists of whatever I say it does.

My Dad was absent in my life. I didn't have a male roll model growing up, my Step Dad wasn't a very good example of how a man should treat a woman either. If I hadn't met my husband (then boyfriend) at the age of 15, I would undoubtedly be married to an alcoholic/abuser. I owe the person I am today to the great person my husband is.

Yuppers. My father was murdered before I was born. I had the benefit of growing up for many years with my grandparents because of my mother's proclivities at the time, and my grandfather was an old fashioned guy; they kind who always kept the yardstick close by in case you forgot to say "Yes m'am". My sister wasn't so fortunate. She lived with my mother the entire time and is now incarcerated. Probably will be for the rest of her life.
I'm also a single dad and I have to tell you it's much, much harder. I was fortunate enough to be blessed with three very smart and very well behaved young boys.

I'm sure that they also think it's OK that the underage primitive "asserts her independence" while her mom foots the bills. They always do get indignant when their parents won't help fund them to live the "alternative lifestyles" they choose, even though the parents may vehemently disagree with it. It seems to me that members of Mensa are those who tested well (>95%) but are losers who compensate by participating in a club that affirms their innate superiority (rather than by, you know, accomplishing anything). [NB: This does not apply to everyone who joins Mensa, rather to those who (a) are active, and (b) put it on their resume. Like disgraced PA Senator vince Fumo.) I can see those losers enticing underage girls to strip for them in this manner.

The last PLAYBOY I bought was for the interview (about 1980). They had an interview with Barry Goldwater in it. Don't remember who the centerfold was.
....and it was the last one I bought......not the last one I looked at..... :-)
