2. I've met Clinton, Gates, and Warren (Buffett?)
Goldwater and Connally, too (and a host of others, LBJ).

Sat at a table in some fund-raiser between Gates and Buffett.

You can smell Gates fron a couple of feet away.

What about John Warner?  Didn't you introduce yourself at gunpoint while with SeAL Team 3?  Which Gates do you mean...Bill or Robert?   :bs:

3. Lemme see, President Carter (I was not a citizen then)

an ambassador of Israel when I was a kid...

crossed swords with the Consul General of Israel

Met the Consular Affairs officer for the Polish consulate, and the US consulate

Oh and met the President of Mexico a couple times...

I have also met some other VIPs, like Hollywood folks... and a couple sports figures

Oh and in a course I took in college I listened to the French Consul, the Colombian Consul, the Mexican Consul, and the Honduran Consul

Does that make me more qualified?

In case someone doesn't know, the Zbigniew primitive was a Soviet "Jew" (quotation marks intentional), during one of the great cause celebres of the 1970s.

There is nothing wrong with trying to escape oppression in a socialist state.

However, what happened was that many Soviet citizens "discovered" their Judaic origins, something they had taken great pains to hide the preceding 50 years, at the time when Nixon had successfully gotten the socialists to ease on exit visas for Jews.

These newly-uncovered Jews were generally those in the middle levels of Soviet life; it wasn't Beverly Hills, but it wasn't Kinshasha or Algiers or Calcutta either.  These were people who were actually well-off, when compared with the greater masses of their socialist brethren; the parents of the "journalist" lala_rawraw being another example.

Because the socialists tried to limit the number of exit visas for those of Judaic origin, many of these mid-level, "middle-class" (quotation marks intentional), re-christened "Jews" elbowed out those of Jewish derivation more worthy of emigration to some better place.

Generally, the understanding was that Jews and "Jews" leaving the Soviet Union were supposed to go to Israel; authentic Jews usually did that, but at Vienna, "Jews" such as the Zbigniew primitive changed their airline ticket destination from Tel Aviv to New York City, coming to the United States instead as "refugees."

There may be variations on the real-life story of the Zbigniew primitive, but that's the backbone of the story.

The history of the jewish people in Russia is intresting, however it mirrors that of the rest of the jews in Europe over the centuries.

Stalin used then when he needed then and oppressed them when he did not. Prior to WWII they were on the outs with the Soviets, during the war many became top level advisers and leaders in both government and military positions. After the war was over Stalin went back to oprression.

Some of the worst obuses were in the Ukraine. The jewish population there was very large and they were intergated throughout the society. Many had adopted a lifestyle that excluded faith to co-exist. When the Nazis invaded the jews were rounded up and executed, both by the Germans and the right-wing factions of the Ukrainian Nationalist Party.

After the Ukraine was liberated by the Soviets, the people were treated as traitors by Stalin, including the jews who survied, millions moved to the east and Siberia.

My mother's family was from Kiev. They escaped the Nazi invasion, and my Grandfather fought for the Red Army. After the war, they emegrated to the US. They had never practiced religion openly before coming here.  Even then, they were not devout. Til the day he died, my Grandfather said the US should liberate the Russian people from Stalin's yoke. (even after Stalin was gone, when I was very young -mid 1960s, he would blame everything on Stalin.)

I lived in Malibu -- I have met casually more celebs in real life that TiT has met in his fantasy world.

But dutch508, sir, you're mentioning a different era.

The immediate post-World War II refugees were a different sort of people than many of the 1970s "refugees."

Ukraine had a very large population of Jews, next only to Poland, in numbers.

Jews in Ukraine, or generally the Russian empire prior to 1917 did not enjoy the best of life, but they tended to stick with Judaism.

But the repression by the socialists, beginning circa 1920, encouraged many of them to deny their forefathers.

Of course, this did not save them when the Germans came in 1941, who ferreted them out and killed them alongside their avowed and practicing Jewish brothers.

The horrors of the second world war eminently justified anyone getting to America (or elsewhere), whether of Jewish derivation or not.

And then Stalin after 1945 turned on the Jews--and again, the secularized, or those who cast off their Judaism, were murdered alongside their avowed and practicing Jewish brothers.

During the late 1960s and the early 1970s, exit visas from the Soviet Union became somewhat available to those wishing to emigrate to Israel.  This was when Soviets who wouldn't know a Torah if it smacked them in the face, suddenly re-discovered their "Judaism."  Many of these were not the downtrodden of socialism; they tended to be "middle class," in the sense that one could describe a "middle class" in the Soviet Union (a definition that has no parallel with our "middle class").

There were hundreds of thousands of honest authentic Jews who had endured persecution, as Jews, for more than 50 years, eligible for these exit visas, but because such visas were limited, many were shoved out by these "new" Jews.

Under such exit-visa program, one was to fly from the Soviet Union to Vienna, Austria, and thence to Tel Aviv, Israel.  "New" Jews tended to fly from the Soviet Union to Vienna.....where they immediately exchanged their airline tickets for New York City instead.

Sometimes there were complications--as in the case of the Zbigniew primitive--and one had to go to Israel first anyway, but once in Israel, a free and open and democratic society, such complications were lesser, and one then flew from Tel Aviv to New York City.  (It's obvious that the Zbigniew primitive--who might be of Polish, not Soviet, origin, but it's the same thing--spent perhaps a couple of years in Israel before coming here.)

It's good to be highly skeptical of a former Soviet "Jew" who came to the United States as a "refugee" during the 1970s; not of all of them, but of many of them.  Honest authentic Jews did as required, going to Israel and staying in Israel.

What the Zbigniew primitive seems to have wiped from his memory is that once the Incompetent One (1977-1981) took office, the Soviets clamped down on the Jewish exit-visa program, letting hardly anyone leave.  The Zbigniew primitive owes his existence in the United States to those who are probably villains to him, Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford.

True, Frank. What it does show, however, is that the situation has continued in various forms over the years.

Well, Hell, I kissed the hand of H.R.H. the then-Dowager Duchess of Gloucester.

She's the one who died recently, at the age of 102 or 103 years, being the longest-living member of the Royal Family.  She was Princess Alice, married to a younger brother of the father (George VI) of H.M. the Queen.  LC EFA might know of her, because the then-Duke of Gloucester was governor-general of Australia during the second world war.

H.R.H. had some sort of skin condition, and was very old, but she was very nice, impeccably nice.

It was just a fifteen-second encounter, as she was dealing with a long line of people, but I'll bet the lying titty primitive never got that intimate with Royalty.

I've already mentioned elsewhere that the late Sir Adrian Boult spent an entire afternoon "teaching" me music; the visit was supposed to have been for fifteen minutes or so, but went on for nearly four hours.  The noted symphony conductor was intrigued that his art was appreciated by a.....deaf adolescent.

And there was the Pope, in one of those audiences.  And Barbara Bush, on the campaign trail in Pennsylvania.  At the funeral of an older brother of mine, I turned my back and walked away when Joseph R. ("Bob") Kerrey stepped forward to give me condolences, but this was when he was only a mere governor, and not a U.S. Senator yet.  As a high-school project, I interviewed the then-governors of South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, and Iowa.  My own governor at the time was a Democrat, and "didn't have time" to see me.

Robert Dole was a childhood hero of mine, and I met him more times than one can count.

When I was a teenager riding on the California Zephyr from Chicago back to Nebraska, in the dining car where we were seated at the same table, a middle-aged opulently wealthy woman going to Aspen invited me to her first-class suite in the sleeping-car, but being the gallant sort, I thanked her, but demurred.

And so on and on and on and on.....whoop-whoop-dee-doo.

It's not who one meets, but what one is, that counts.
