I got my first batch of HONEYCRISP apples today!!! :hyper: :naughty: :evillaugh:
To those who are still waiting...
MUAH HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!
-
You suck!!!!!!!!! :bawl: :bird:
-
I got some of those last season. I mean, they were pretty good apples, but I didn't see the big deal.
They are the best apples EVEAH!!!!!
I can only get them at Target and they are always so expensive but I pay the price because they are worth it. I'm going to check the next time I go to see if they have them yet.
-
They're all over Minnesota. I got some last year. They were pretty good, but nothing so outstanding. There are other apples that I like just as well.
-
There are only two kinds of apples I will buy now. They are honey crisps and Fuji apples. I have never bitten into one and been disappointed. Maybe someone switched your honey crisp apples for regular ones in the bin or something.
-
Never even heard of that variety. Got my first crop from my apple trees this year. Pink Lady variety. Pretty danged good right off the tree. :cheersmate:
-
Growing up with eight apple trees in the back yard, and three trees at my Great Aunt & Uncles, I could go the rest of my life not eating one.
Seemed like every freaking day, instead of doing "kid stuff" I had to help my mom and Aunt Martha with the apples as they made ziplock bag after ziplock bag of apple pie filling, and apple sauce for the freezer as well as mason jars of apple butter.
Come to think of it, I have never had apple sauce that good since then!
In some batches they would even add "red hots" for a warm Cinnamon twist.
I used to give pick up truck loads of apples away.

So what do they taste like? I like Grannies, because of the slight sourness.
-
I like the ones off my tree--price is right, anyway.

Like a mouth full of apple pie without the cinnamon.
Very sweet apple with a little aftertaste of tartness. Like MorningAngel if she were a red fruit. :evillaugh:
-
I love Grannies.....especially dipped in caramel and peanuts. :-)
We have 2 Grannies up towards the front of our property....the crows picked at them...then they fell and the deer girls ate them.... :banghead: I think we spoiled the deer girls last winter when we would go buy apples for them from the produce stand. I found one on over by OakRidge that sells 7-9 for $2 that are no longer good enough for regular price. The deer girls love them.

That.just.doesn't.sound.right.

Honey crisps are very crisp. Kinda like biting into a wave of juicy goodness. They are like sweet tarts a little, sweet but tart. Fuji apples are a lot like honey crisps but they are sweeter.

It actually sounded better than THIS:

Which provokes a "Please give me some brain floss" mental image. :p

It takes a slightly warped mind to find stuff like that. :-)

My mom used to make applesauce with red hots or put in cinnamon. I've never made homemade applesauce, but if I buy some in a jar at the store, I always put in cinnamon.
Well, I used to. SR doesn't like cinnamon. :bawl:

Applesauce sucks without cinnamon......
-
The only thing we had around my home was horse apples. Useless, nasty things. The most we ever did was push them out onto the road for cars to run over.
-
Chris, plenty of them around North Central Texas. When I was young, we used to use them as "hand grenades" when we played "Army".

I don't think we ever thought of throwing them at each other. They were too nasty. :lmao:
