Hegseth firing Sylvia isn’t office politics — he smoked out a wartime mole

The explosive fallout dominating today’s news cycle over War Secretary Pete Hegseth’s firing of Army Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia — the Pentagon’s top military planner accused of leaking classified information related to the Iran war — proves that internal subversion remains an active threat to national security. According to reports breaking on Fox News, Sylvia was ousted after failing three polygraph examinations concerning unauthorized disclosures to reporters.
The timing of this rapidly unfolding development could not be more dangerous. With the critical midterm elections days away and President Donald Trump openly weighing whether to resume major military operations or broker a peace deal, the alleged leaking of classified strategic options directly undercuts the commander in chief at the exact moment he needs total operational cohesion.
...
During Trump’s first term, this friction evolved into a systematized siege, with an unprecedented flood of leaks designed to paralyze domestic policy and derail sensitive foreign initiatives.
Now, as the conflict with Iran hits a fever pitch — evidenced by breaking updates on CBS News reporting that multiple oil tankers have erupted in flames near the strategic Strait of Hormuz — the plague has escalated from a political nuisance to an acute crisis. When active wartime deliberations are compromised from within, the administration loses its most vital tool in international relations: the power of selective signaling.

$34 Million Los Angeles School Sits Vacant and Vandalized Since 2021

In 2003, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) had 703,000 students. "The district had been running year-round schedules, with the school year shortened by nearly a month, to accommodate its burgeoning student population," reports the Los Angeles Times.
Over the last 23 years, district enrollment has declined by more than 50%. When it became obvious that enrollment had passed its peak, the LAUSD canceled 18 construction projects for new schools in 2007.
But one of those projects, zombie-like, came back from the dead. A charter school, Camino Nuevo Charter Academy, won approval from the school board to build a school at 1215 Miramar Avenue. The state had already earmarked the funds for a charter school, so LAUSD gave the project the green light.
...
All that changed as the decades rolled by. Camino Nuevo closed the campus in 2021 and left behind an $8 million construction debt that any new tenant must pay.
“Ultimately, the campus was too far away” from the other Camino Nuevo schools, said Ana Ponce, head of Camino Nuevo at the time. “Those students found alternatives, predominantly other charter high schools, that were closer to our middle school campuses.”
...
For the last five years, vandals have punched holes in the walls, the floors, and the ceilings, started fires, and broken pipes that have leaked water onto the floors. The district is paying $1 million a year for security and maintenance.
"We have the $$, so we better spend it before it goes away."

Hegseth Fires a Three-Star for Leaking to the Press UPDATE: Uh-Oh
https://hotair.com/tree-hugging-sister/2026/10/29/hegseth-fires-a-three-star-for-leaking-to-the-press-n3820458 (https://hotair.com/tree-hugging-sister/2026/10/29/hegseth-fires-a-three-star-for-leaking-to-the-press-n3820458)
From frustratingly deep in the article:
Hegseth has Dan Caine and is assembling a cadre of able, trusted, many battle-tested senior advisors he can lean on.
Speaking of 'trusted,' about Gen. Sylvia's being forced out with 'no explanation '?
Oh. Turns out there was one. You kind of had to figure there was.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has fired the Pentagon's top military planner, several sources confirmed to CBS News late Wednesday.
A Pentagon official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive personnel matters, said Army Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia was accused of misconduct for allegedly leaking classified information related to the Iran war and the Russia-Ukraine war.
Sylvia failed three polygraph tests about sharing classified information with the press, the official said, adding that the case has been referred to the Department of Justice.
According to the Daily Caller, it was worse than bad.
I mean, DAY-YUM.
...“Due to the Pentagon’s media policy requiring journalists to have escorts in the building, Sylvia began meeting with journalists outside of the Pentagon to leak classified information,” the official told the Caller.
Sylvia is the subject of an investigation for leaking classified information about the Iran War, the war between Russia and Ukraine, and more. Due to the Pentagon’s media policy requiring journalists to have escorts in the building, Sylvia began meeting with journalists outside of the Pentagon in order to leak classified information.
Sylvia failed three polygraphs which questioned him about leaking classified information. The investigation into him remains ongoing and has been referred to the Department of Justice for further action. The extent of his leaking became so critical that Secretary Hegseth took immediate action and fired Sylvia in order to protect national security. Urgent action was needed and could not wait another second.”
Beege UPDATES: Oh, dear. This is far more sordid than even I could imagine. But then again, I could never imagine being such a craven asswipe.
Marc Caputo has an Axios exclusive that has just made me ill.
Exclusive: Fired general admitted to leaking classified Iran and Ukraine info, report says
The Pentagon's top military planner admitted to leaking classified information about Ukraine and Iran to two reporters from separate outlets over a one-year period, according to an internal report of the investigation shared with Axios.
Why it matters: Army Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia was fired this week by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for the alleged misconduct, which the career soldier acknowledged on video after he failed four polygraph tests, a U.S. official said.

When does conduct such as Sylvia's become treason instead of a job at CNN?
