Obama supports U.S. economic recovery efforts

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama said on Friday he supported efforts by the U.S. Treasury and Federal Reserve to shore up confidence in the financial markets and said he would hold off from presenting his own economic recovery plan.

"The events of the last few days have made it clear that we must take further bold and decisive action to shore up confidence in our financial markets and avoid a deepening economic crisis that could jeopardize the life savings and well-being of millions of Americans," Obama said in a statement.

Obama said he supported efforts by Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke to work with the Congressional leadership to find a solution to the deepening crisis.

*snip*

"Given the gravity of this situation, and based on conversations I have had with both Secretary Paulson and Chairman Bernanke, I have asked my economic team to refrain from presenting a more detailed blue-print of how an immediate plan might be structured until the Treasury and the Federal Reserve have had an opportunity to present their proposal."

Obama said it was critical that the markets and public have confidence in the Fed and Treasury's efforts and that their work be "unimpeded by partisan wrangling."

*cough*
Bullsh*t
*cough*

:censored:-ing coward.  he just doesn't want to put a marker down.  he wants to blame george bush for the whole
thing, and by extension john mccain, without exposing himself to any criticism.

I think he is waiting a couple days to see what the markets do so he can either take credit for it or Blame Bush.

Like McCain says on the campaign trail...You can't say PRESENT when you need to make on the spot decisions.  It's so f*cking obvious this kid has no clue on how to handle any kind of crisis.  His handlers, the real ones in charge, are really dictating policy here.  He is their mouthpiece.

yeah, he gets caught up in his flip-flops.  for example, he doesn't realize that when he denies the success of the surge that
he is implying that iraq has been pacified without the surge, which in turn implies an endorsement of the original bush strategy
in iraq.  THAT, of course, clearly means that his original opposition of the war was WRONG.

This is the same thing as voting "Present" instead of taking a stand and voting yes or no. I wonder if he really believes people don't see thru this?

Barack - let me apologize up-front ,as one of the basically good people who watch the wrong TV channels and listen to the wrong radio programs - what I'm about to type here might come off as bitter or uninformed.

If you think that detailing your economic recovery plan may cause loss in confidence within the market, I'd suggest its probably not a very good plan to begin with.

Did not Lieutenant John ******* Kerry, who served in Vietnam, once utter that he would hold off releasing his plans for Iraq so as not to muddy the waters before the election.

Anybody remember how that worked out for him?

I thought it was only a correction?

[major]correction/crisis.
Although when I used crisis in this post..I said any kind of crisis and I mean financial, terrorist act, natural disaster..etc.

Saying that, I still don't believe we will be in a depression...if I did..I'd be digging a hole large enough to accomodate a few shoeboxes filled with cash.
If I'm wrong...you "win" this debate.
