THE TIMES THEY AIN’T A-CHANGIN’

The New York Times subjects Harmeet Dhillon to the obligatory trashing of principled conservative combatants in a 2,500-word hit job by Glenn Thrush and Michael Bender headlined “From Top Civil Rights Post, She Spars With the Left, and Her Colleagues.” The story seems to me a pudding in search of a theme beyond antipathy to its subject. Harmeet Dhillon, she’s bad. For this Dhillon, anyway, the Times they ain’t a-changin.
According to the authors of the Times story, the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights has “repurposed a unit created to address Jim Crow injustices into a battering ram against the elite left.” What a lame indictment. Like the March of Dimes, the civil rights division must have outlived its time.
Harmeet seeks to bring our elite universities — Harvard foremost among them — into compliance with the laws she is tasked with enforcing. The Times story takes approximately no interest in the wayward course these institutions have taken.
The story moves from topic to topic while not giving Harmeet a chance to speak on her own behalf. This is about as good as it gets:
Ms. Dhillon, in a statement, denied that she had been impelled by any motive other than fairly enforcing federal law, including Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which bans discrimination by any recipient of federal funding. Her actions on higher education, she wrote, have been based on an evenhanded examination of admissions data, “not personal animus toward elite universities.”
The NYT won't dare let Dhillon speak for herself. She has the facts, intellectual capability, and political courage to ram the NYT minions' partisan flatulation up their collective fat asses. I'm mildly surprised the NYT hasn't labeled Dhillon a White Rice Dhosa or something similarly race-traitor-ish.
Whatever the thinking underlying the 1964 Civil Rights Act, Libs/Progs have for decades believed that racism and discrimination in favor of blacks, Hispanics, etc. is exempt from that law.
