DAMN THE NEOCONS all to hell
I was visiting a friend last night, and we were talking outside as I was getting ready to leave. His neighbor's son came over when he saw us-this was about 1 AM. He's 24, in the Marines and leaving at the end of the month for his third tour in Iraq. We got to talking and he mentioned how it was getting to him, which is why he's up and about in the middle of the night. Told us that a lot of times he drives around on the back roads and just hangs his head out the window and screams. What bothers him the most is knowing that the more you go back the less his chances are. He's worried about what it will to to his mother if he gets killed or hurt bad. He can't talk to his dad because his dad is a hard-core repuke.
He's definitely stressed to the max and Uncle Sam is not much help. I just hope that talking to him for about an hour helped. Shook his hand and told him good luck and that I hope this crap ends soon so that he can come home. He thanked me for taking the time to talk to him.

Not a good bouncy at all. No real Marine would talk like that, especially to a moonbat. My brother is a lowly Army sergeant, he's been to Iraq twice and Kosovo once, and to him, it was just a job to do. And he saw plenty (he only tells his wife about it, she tells me), he didn't spend his tours at some desk job. And I have two young nephews-in-law, one just starting his second Iraq tour and the other just finished his second Iraq tour-he came home, got a job, and got back into the routine of living, just like my brother. I don't believe this story at all.

That's the very first thing that came to my mind. I know Marines...I raised one (I used to think teenagers could clean out a refrigerator, but a couple of hungry Marines can decimate it). I've met wild ones and quiet ones but I've yet to meet one who doesn't love being a Marine and doesn't take HONOR, COURAGE, COMMITMENT seriously. More than anything I hate it when they denigrate the military, especially when they try to make them some pathetic Oliver Stone stereotype. I know there are ones like mike_c who aren't shy about their hatred. I guess having an overbearing wife and a small penis would tend to make a girly-man jealous of the real thing. But at least he's honest about his contempt. Those that do so with their fake compassion are disgusting. Think I'll go make another donation to the USO in honor of the little hobbit.

I don't know of any real member of the military that freely talks to civilians about what they saw in combat or how it affects them. I talk to people that were there and friends of mine I served with...but really that's about it. It's only been the last couple of eyars I finally talk to my wife about it.
If the DUmmies are gonna make up these fantasy stories they should REALLY study their subject matter more closely to make it more believable.

Most of what I know about my uncle's service in Viet Nam comes from others...he rarely talks about it and then only if I ask questions first. My father-in-law only opened up to my son in the past few years (he marched from Normandy to Berlin with the 4th ID), of course Jake is the only one who ever asked him about it but still he never volunteered information either. And it's also one of the reasons I'm so humbled by the stories John McCain has shared. I'm sure we don't know even half of his story but what little we do know is so raw and human and brave. He wasn't my first choice (though his pick of Sarah Palin has definitely reassured me about his judgment), but I never for one second doubted he wouldn't be an excellent CinC for my son. Obama, OTOH, scares the crap out of me.

Not even close. I was a soldier, but trained with all services in AIT. Was also married to an ex-Marine. Jarines don't act soppy like this and if they were inclined to they wouldn't be doing it with total strangers.
Giving this one a FAIL.

I saw the movie Stop Loss and I became so overwhelmed at the plight of all those baby-killing hicks who weren't smart enough to go to college that I just had to vent my frustrations here on DU. Damn those conservatives to hell! Bring our troops home NOW so they can be charged with war crimes NOW!

That's how my family members who served are. They saw some horrible things, but they don't go around button-holing people to
"vent" their "trauma". They come home, go back to work, pay the bills, go to church, socialise with friends, and talk to their wives when their wives want to know what happened. That's how I know---my sister-in-law tells me. The worst thing I've ever asked my brother was did he or any of his buddies ever see any of those carpet vipers, or whatever snakes they have there.
