What Is the U.S. Navy Telling Trump?
Trump isn't sending ships to the Strait of Hormuz. Why is that, do you suppose?
Well, I don't have any actual names or times, but here's probably the reason:
Naval expert have told Trump that there is no viable way that US Navy ships can safeguard shipping vessels through that bottleneck. Worse, it would be very difficult to even defend the Naval vessels themselves. Since we have no control over the land bases at the Strait, Iran could easily attack any warships we send in there, and with almost zero warning.
Bottom line: "Don't try it, Mr. President! It will fail miserably."
So, Trump calls for other nations to do it. But they aren't about to do something so stupid. Not a freaking chance.
Trump is stuck and has no valid way to get unstuck from this situation. "Stupid is as stupid does," once again.

IRL, MM should have answered his "question" with, "I have zero clues and will shut up here." So ...
1. Trump knows he does not need to send large USN ships into the Strait of Hormuz. USN F/A-18s and F-35s and USAF F-15s, F-35s, and A10s can handle the job and respond at 10X or 20X the speed of a ship.
2, It does not take a naval history genius to know that navies are very reluctant to send large, unmaneuverable, ships into narrow waters. Using Guadalcanal as an example, never in that campaign were USN CVs sent into Iron Bottom Sound. Further only once did Halsey send USN BBs into Iron Bottom Sound (and IIRC, the IJN only did it three times, twice disastrously). Fuso and Yamashiro did poorly in the narrow waters of Surigao Strait, too, against more maneuverable USN DDs.

Never mind the fact we have done it before and I double dog dare the Iranians to touch one our boat's.

Really?! Your posts are typically laser-focused with precise times and dates plus footnotes. ::)

That would require more self awareness than ANY DUmp'Rat has ever demonstrated. We'd be more likely to see #SpongeBrainShitPants come back for another 4 years of running the Biden Crime Family from the Oval Office than any DUmp'Rat stoop to even a substantial fraction of that level of humility.

See, this is what happens when your entire military knowledge can be summed up by saying you learned it all from watching The Village People videos.

Hey, my ship at the time, USS Halsey (CG-23) was in the background at 3:30 in the original In The Navy video. This video was filmed on USS Reasoner (FF-1063), a Knox-class frigate, at the 32nd Street Naval Station in San Diego. USS Halsey was moored at the same pier ahead of USS Reasoner.

The "Stingray" (the hull number was correct for the real USS Stingray, but she was of the older Salmon class, not the Balao class) was the USS Pampanito, which is a museum in SF. In the scene where the "Stingray" was going out to sea, the hills in the background are near the city of Benicia.

To this day I watch that video gleefully with some frequency. :yahoo:
Reason why is that when it was shot, my dad was an E-Div Petty Officer aboard the Reasoner.
