So the Department of Homeland Security is currently shut down
And yet Trump has started a war of regime change against a country that is potentially capable of guerilla strikes on American soil.
According to a CBS report from a few weeks ago, "The shutdown will affect the Transportation Security Administration, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Coast Guard, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency and other agencies within DHS that safeguard national security."
It seems to me that if you're going to start a major war with another country -- especially if you're going to force the leaders of that country into an existential crisis, meaning that literally everything is on the table in terms of their response -- it would make sense to have all those defense and security agencies operating at full strength. And yet here we are.
Of course, DHS itself, along with the rest of the Trump regime, has been describing this as the "Democrats' shutdown" because Republicans have refused to negotiate with Democrats, who simply want ICE to follow the Constitution.
Now, if I were a very cynical person, I might think that not only does Trump not care about an attack on American soil, but he'd actually welcome such a thing, because a) he could blame it on the Democrats for shutting down DHS, and b) it would give him the pretext he needs to declare a national emergency and assert federal control over the mid-term elections.
But gosh, one would really have to lose one's faith in the President of the United States to consider that he might do something so disgraceful, wouldn't one?

Yes, the SSA is shut down or is doing very limited services, because of the Dems' anti-DHS snit.
OTOH, Iran has been at war with the US, courtesy of Jimmy Carter, and has been threatening the US with their almost ready long-range missiles. EarlG and DU-folk are not POed that Iran got attacked. They are POed because Trump did it. Had LIEden done it DU-folk would praise his decisiveness and foreign policy genius.

I think it's more like "Democrats want to kneecap ICE", and they think that goal is worth whatever might happen as the result of DHS being shut down.

Suddenly, a Black Muslim immigrant from Somali (which I’m sure most MAGA thinks is in the Middle East) jumps out and starts shooting up a crowd in Texas, so Trump can claim correlation between Iran’s “dangerous” (aka nonexistent) nukes and the need to have Ice Gestapo in the US.

:thatsright: The guy, IMO, should not have been in the US. He had been in the US since at least 2000, with a 15b or more years criminal record that began in 2001. Despite having a criminal record, instead of being deported, he became a naturalized citizen in 2013. Thank you, OhBummer! MalAdministration! The guy is mentally screwed up, and decided that killing random Americans would earn him 72 virgins; since he wasn't in battle, I think he got 36 Helen Thomases, instead of 72.

Considering how many MAGAts are current military, former military, or military adjacent, the chances of any of us not having at least peripheral awareness of the Shithole of Somalia's geographic location, lat/long coordinates, and an old "death by powerpoint" cultural briefing on the Gods forsaken place gets as close to ZERO as anything is likely to be this side of the heat death of the universe.
