Amelia is a fictional, AI-rendered teenage girl with purple hair who has gone viral on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter). She was originally created in 2024 as part of a UK government-funded anti-extremism project called Pathways: Navigating Gaming, the Internet & Extremism, developed by the nonprofit Shout Out UK under the Home Office’s Prevent programme. In the game, players take on the role of a student named Charlie who befriends Amelia, only for her to introduce anti-migrant misinformation and encourage radicalization.

After the game faced criticism, Amelia’s image was pulled from official channels, but far-right groups quickly co-opted her into memes and AI-generated videos. They rebranded her as a “waifu” — a stylized character they could parody and weaponize — often showing her in high-definition clips promoting racist, anti-immigration, and extremist views. Some versions even depict her in immigration enforcement uniforms or holding the Union Jack. The trend has grown so large that Amelia-themed AI videos have garnered millions of views, online communities have formed, and even meme-based cryptocurrencies have been launched in her name.

And now they have a techno anthem...
