Democrats Vow to Oppose Homeland Security Funding Bill. That Increases the Chance of a Shutdown

Democrat senators are vowing to oppose a funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security following the shooting death of a 37-year-old Minnesota man, a stand that increases the prospect of a partial government shutdown by the end of the week.
Senate Democrat leader Chuck Schumer, in a social media post Saturday night, hours after the shooting, said that what is happening in Minnesota is "appalling" and that Democrats "will not provide the votes to proceed to the appropriations bill if the DHS funding bill is included."
Six of the 12 annual spending bills for the current budget year have been signed into law by President Donald Trump. Six more are awaiting action in the Senate. If senators fail to act by midnight Friday, funding for agencies covered under those six bills will lapse.
Another government shutdown coming?

Once again Dems have their finger in the wind ... from a fan of their own positioning. I don't think many Americans love people dying, but between the knowledge that ICE and CBP officers are enforcing the law, focused on specific criminal illegals (= more than entered illegally), and the violent and tantrumming antics of the Hate-ICE activists, the Dems may be misreading the societal wind by close to 180 degrees.

I expect the Dems' opposition to this bill to be about as popular as their "defund the police" efforts.

Yeah, because the first Democrat shutdown worked so well for them.
Remember kids. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

ICE and CBP would keep operating during a shutdown, despite DHS funding fight

Washington — Senate Democrats are threatening to block a package to fund major parts of the government this week, including the Department of Homeland Security, following the deadly shooting of a man by federal agents in Minneapolis.
But a partial government shutdown would likely have little impact on the administration's ongoing immigration enforcement operations, since the relevant DHS agencies received a massive funding infusion in President Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act last year. The immigration enforcement agencies would have the funds to continue operating uninterrupted, even if other parts of the government shut down.
The Senate had been poised this week to approve a six-bill package to fund the remaining government agencies and programs — including funding for DHS. The department oversees Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection, the agency that includes Border Patrol.
Government shutdown would have little impact on ICE. Quixotic attempt.

What amazes me is that when the dems are in control and the government shuts down, they declare it to be the republicans fault. When the GOP is in control and the government shuts down, they again declare it to be the republicans fault. It's always the republicans fault, and their mindless minions always agree with them.
