I went to a memorial service for Rene Good at the scene of her murder today.

It was held by an organization of local clergy of all faiths and denominations (I know one of them, a Lutheran pastor), and there was a good-sized crowd. From their various faith perspectives the speakers discussed nonviolent resistance and the need to stay and work together, and avoid reactions that would provoke violence - it was actually pretty uplifting and made me feel a little less despair on account of the dark cloud over this city. A Somali man was giving away fresh hot samosas. Some photos:

Given that all you need is an e-mail list and a cell phone to contact any number of people who will just show up to be a part of a crowd.

It may be uncharitable of me, but I'm guessing the "all faiths and denominations" actually was all except Evangelical denominations and groups. I also guess that the Lutheran pastor was from an ELCA congregation, not a Missouri or Wisconsin Synod congregation. IOW, the clergy were probably of faiths/denominations more interested in Prog political ideas than in understanding and living what the Bible teaches.
