howdi. this is a true story about me.
location: marine induction station . date 0915/1976. event. on my 18th birtdhday i went to said marine inductoon station in azusa ca. i was one of the last lottery draft numbers before the military switched over 2 the all volunteer service. luck had it that the station was closed that day and switching over. came back the next day. promptlyu 4fed due to a spinal fusion and other issues. i tried. at least i didnt run off to paris for 7 years to play tennis, as i mentioned to someone i know . he said or goto canada ore have my dad bribe a dr to say i had bone spures. i am proud i did show up and do my duty.

DUmmy is apparently trying to make a point about being a good American.  But there is a slight problem. The last draft call was on December 7, 1972, and authority to induct expired July 1, 1973.  There were lottery draws in 1973-1975, and they were used to require some men to report for physicals, but that ended in January 1976.  Also, registration with the Selective Service System was suspended on April 1, 1975.  So, his "true story" is not just your typical highly questionable grocery store bouncy but is demonstratively a complete and utter fabrication.  His lie is so bad that even other DUmmies call it out.

3. The draft ended

in January, 1973.

Perhaps the closest H2O Man has come to being correct.  And he did it without typing out a 5000-word essay and without mentioning Rubin Carter.  But AllaN01Bear can explain the discrepancy:

Had this actually happened, AllaN01Bear would have been rejected due to incoherence, plus or minus a call to LASD for public intoxication.

I owe you an apology. I thought you were wrong about the bolded red because I knew that I registered in the 80s so I did something that is apparently unheard of in DU circles: I looked it up. I found out that you are absolutely right, and the reason that I remember registering in the 80s is because the terrible even for a dem Jimmy Carter resumed it in 1980.

You know, I did that too. A little 4x4 yellow card at the post office. I did it because everyone kept reminding me when I turned 18. Now I'm wondering what the hell I filled out.

edit: Forgot to mention, this was also in the late 80's

I should have finished my post noting the re-enactment of selective service registration in 1980.  I meant to include that because, based on how Carter's order was written and how it overlapped with previous presidential registration orders, men born between April 1957 and January 1960 completely avoided ever having to register.  They were exempt from ever being drafted.  If this DUmmy turned 18 in 1976, then he was born in 1958.  Therefore, not only was he never included in the Vietnam War draft lottery, but he was also never required to register at all and could not have ever been drafted at any point in his life.

Shortly after I turned 18 in 1977 I was over at my brother's apartment. His roommate convinced me that I needed to register for the draft. I fell for it like a rock. I then went to the post office and told them that I wanted to register for the draft. They looked at me like I was from Mars and told me there was no longer a draft. Boy, did I feel dumb.

I went ahead and signed up. It didn't matter because later on I joined my local National Guard unit and a year and a half later transferred to the Active-duty Army and my 1st posting was to the 101st.
