Title: The self-owning begins

The self-owning begins.

It had to happen eventually,

MAGAT fans of Cracker Barrel turn on the company for changing its logo. The logo dropped the old man and the whip. Problem is - MAGATs are the Cracker Barrel consumer base. The rest of us are pointing and laughing.

Today the MAGATs are celebrating the resignation of the CEO of Target. "Woke means broke." The trouble is, the company turned its back on all its woke merchandise and HR policies a year ago, resulting in boycotts. But wait, the Fox News viewers kept boycotting it too. So everybody stopped going to Target, which, I hate to say this - MAGAT country depends on Target more than I do.

Meanwhile it's August and all the people who pick our food are being deported. And somehow those "34 million able-bodied people on Medicaid" just haven't shown up to work in the fields. Because - surprise! - it's actually skilled labor and very hard work and most people can't do it. (And most people on Medicaid aren't able-bodied either.)

At this point everything the MAGATs do hurts them much more than it hurts us.

When MAGA punches down they punch themselves in the face.

The people who pick our food? Racist  much?

That was hard to read.  I feel so owned and ashamed.

 :rotf:

I can’t tell you the last time I was in a Target or a Walmart. I would rather do most of my shopping local. HEB and Brookshire Brothers have most everything I need. Academy has the outdoor stuff I need.

Those are all Texas businesses.

Cracker Barrel isn’t being eviscerated due to the logo change. They changed WAY more than just the logo. I like Cracker Barrel and when the opportunity arises, I eat there. I’m not much into the cancel culture but it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

DUmmie yardwork self-beclowned, unsurprisingly.

1. While I'm certain that some Trump voters patronize Cracker Barrel, I doubt that they do so as some sort of cultural-political gesture or ritual. Whether Trump voters' % of Cracker Barrel customers is greater than their region's percentage of votes for Trump is very doubtful.

2. Here is a picture of the old Cracker Barrel logo on an outdoor sign:

Could someone tell me where the whip DUmmie yardwork called out is (outside of his/her :stoner: , of course)? Was this race-baiting ignorance or an intentional lie?

3. Until this AM, this Trump voter had no clue where the Cracker Barrel nearest me is located, or even if they have stores in CA. Using the location finder, the nearest store to me is in Bakersfield, around 300 miles from this Trump voter (for some states, a 300 mile drive would be into a neighboring state, :-) ). Now, the nearest CfA or In-N-Out, they're 15 or 20 minutes' drive from my home.

It’s not just MAGA supporters who mocked Cracker Barrel for the logo change- it’s everyone outside the left’s little corner of the world, and even some within it.

Also, the comment about “punching down” made me roll my eyes so hard I can see backwards. The people who dehumanize “MAGATs” are here to tell us about punching down. The unwitting defenders of the political overclass are here to accuse us pf punching down.

Ignoring socio-political aspects, former CEO Brian Cornell's retail experience was weak. His experience with Pepsico and Yum! Brands - i.e. food sales - kind of outweighs his retail experience. His 2021 very publicly announced support for DEI in the context of George Floyd rioters' looting and destruction of a Target store was moronic and the PR damage more lasting than the quick withdrawal of the wokechandise could undo. Doing in the face of strong competition from the likes of Walmart, Kohl's, Costco, and Amazon - i.e. similarly strong alternatives - even more so. Withdrawing the wokechandise was could not repair the damage done. Any restored trust with those who objected to it was counter-balanced or more by the reaction of the woketivists. Target jumped into a ditch from which extrication was not possible, in the short- and medium-term.

As to "depending" on Target, our family does buy some things there. We also buy, variously, at Lucky (groceries), Costco, and Amazon. There's also a Walmart we don't shop because the parking lot access and egress suck. If the two Targets on Hillsdale and Saratoga magically closed tomorrow, we would have zero problems getting our needs and wants elsewhere and at similar costs.

Re: 1) According to VRWC Handbook, we are to reserve cultural-political patronage for Chik-Fil-A, specifically.  :II:

Re: 2) I'm presuming the DUmp'Rat is seeing the swoop originating from the upper branch of the K in Cracker Barrel and circling the original logo and interpreting it as a slave massa's whip. (All I can do is guess here; I can't remove enough of my brain to reduce my intelligence to DUmp'Rat levels of stupid without involving .45 ACP moving at Mach Jebus.)

As is often the case in these butt-hurt instances, I'm having trouble seeing the issue with the original Cracker Barrel logo. Likewise, I don't see an issue with the new logo. Both are not the most attractive logos, but the first logo seemed to fit what Cracker Barrel appeared to be going for which is old(ish) fashioned country food for hard working country people. Not just white people. Not just black people. Just people.

I'm sure the left doesn't realize this, but there are a fair number of country people who work hard and are "of color". As a kid, the first paying job that I ever had that wasn't on my grandparents' farm was bailing hay. I got the job due to some hard working country friends who were black. We're friends to this day, and although they no longer live in the country, they are still hardworking and would consider themselves to still be country. They'd also eat in a Cracker Barrel without giving a thought to the logo.

Is there any estimate of how many MAGA//R//conservative self-own fizzles like this one have been posted on DU in the past 24 1/2 years or so?

For some reason, reading that reminded me of when the loony left was going to boycott "evil" Chick-Fil-A and put it out of business, and in one of the biggest backfires ever, more folks than ever were lining up to buy Chick-Fil-A.

In the time since then (2012, IIRC) CfA has expanded from 0 SF Bay Area locations to 15-20-?? (depends on how "SF Bay Area" is defined) with more being built (most recently, Morgan Hill, San Mateo, and Petaluma, that I know of).

Their Hobby Lobby boycott is not doing well, either, with one opening in San Jose early this year. Before that, the nearest was in Morgan Hill, about a half hour drive from our home.
