My Wife's University is being Gutted

In Indiana… a state university. One of her classes lost about half its students due to international students either having visas denied or simply choosing to not return.

She has to post her class syllabi on a public website next week. One class is a lit class from a disability perspective. She expects this will be the last time that class will run.

The loss of international students is likely to seriously damage her university.

She had planned to retire in 7 years. We are now making back-up plans in case she is forced out early. There are rumors of a buy-out offer. She may even consider that.

What a ****ing mess.

Did any DU-Denizen notice that this is oxymoronic? How can a class lose "half its students" when the supposedly lost students cannot or did not enter the US so as to enroll in the class?

It takes a virulent Trump-Hater to demonize simply enforcing US laws concerning student visas.

How does a "disability perspective" change teaching Literature? It's not like people with disabilities are missing from the writings, e.g., of Charles Dickens or Charlotte Bronte. As for injecting Victimology, that cultural perspective is foreign to their writings. Try teaching what the books are instead of injecting something they are not. Want Victim-Lit, find it in ideological ghetto bookstore sections or write it yourself.

A university professor having to face ordinary real-world workplace changes? With 1 or 2 or ? years to prepare? Whine about that to normal people laid off with a month's or a day's or zero notice. How not shocking. Maybe she could learn to code ... or get fryolator training.

This "class" should never have been run. PERIOD. Indiana state should be cutting funding to this "college" by 70% if such a class was ever taught. Hell even considered being taught. What a waste of taxpayer mony.

Shouldn't the focus of a state university be to educate state residents, not foreigners?

(Asking for a taxpayer friend.)

Foreigners (those here legally; many states allow illegals to pay in-state tuition) pay out-of-state tuition, sometimes come with grants/bribes from their countries, and earn the college/university Prog-virtue-signal points.

so that begs the queston, does the university exist to educate the masses for the common good or does it exist to cherry pick the students it admits who will stuff the bank account of the university the best?

BTW, I'm having a hard time seeing why Victimology majors and classes getting "gutted" is not a good, even great, thing.

I live in WA state where the legislature voted to give illegals in-state tuition about 20 years ago. But someone legally here on a student visa gets screwed.

Trump and Bondi need to cut federal funding to state schools that do that.

U.S. State Department Revokes More Than 6,000 Student Visas in 2025 Crackdown

The U.S. State Department has revoked more than 6,000 student visas so far in 2025, citing violations including overstays, assault, burglary, DUIs, and support for terrorism, officials confirmed to Fox News Digital.

The action comes as part of a broader initiative by the Trump administration to tighten immigration enforcement and safeguard academic institutions.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who announced in May that the administration was reviewing the visa status of students involved in pro-Palestine protests, has made student visa revocations a top priority.

My emphasis. I wonder how many of the supposedly erstwhile students of the wife of UnHappy Hoosier are among this 6000.
