Have you ever seen a person in a wheelchair working the retail floor?
No...right? like, that's why we have disability etc...so that doesn't need to be a thing for people already struggling to just live in their bodies!
last night I had dreams of exactly that.
That I couldn't make it to my 'new job' on time because my leg wouldn't srtaigten out and work so I coudl drive the car... and when I got there late, they didn't put me on the register (lines of massive people everywhere, chaos and trashed store.) They gave me an admin job doing codes of some sort on the computer... but it was literally in the CENTER of all the lines and people, like I was on display for everyone to heckle etc... the desk was dirty, the notes my mg gave me were impossible to read, and the computer had issues that everyone could see.
It wasn't just embarassing, it was degrading and shameful and feelings of inadeuacy on tope of the inability to run from the situaton because I was confined to a chair...
Talk about deep fears.
the past 2 days or more have been flare central, and it's scary and deep and hhumiliating. I'm trying to start a holistic healing business and here MY body is, being a bitch. been waking up in puddles of sweat... not hormonal. when I look it up as autoimmune symptome I see bad words...like Lupus. or MS
I'm scared and alone and I don't like it.

1. Off the top of my head, a morning shift cashier at a Safeway in Los Gatos uses a wheelchair. So, yes, there are retail workers out there whose limitations are accommodated by their stores.
2. Saying so is "tough love", but your dreams are not reality.
3. Your holistic healing business is failing the "Physician heal thyself" test?

Well actually, yes. I've seen it countless times.
Fact is, those folks who are genuinely handicapped usually want nothing more than to work a job and live as normal of a life as possible, unlike the standard DUmmy who fakes it for SSDI, pretends to be a cat and is so paranoid from reading DU that they are always looking over their shoulder for roving bands of armed MAGA who want to kill it.

Yes. Here in small town (~2,500 residents), red-state "hell" we have several wheelchair bound folks, working in the local Walmart, running the town recycling center; hell, even as a waiter in my favorite local restaurant.
Your point, DUmp'Rat??? :therock:

I guess the "medical MJ" is not working as intended. :o

People using various aids, from braces to canes to walkers to wheelchairs is so ordinary/normal to me that I scarce notice single encounters. The reason I recalled the Safeway cashier lady is that we've spoken multiple times when I've been at her store on a Sun Chips run. One of the spectators at the running event last Saturday was an older gentleman (in his 80s? 90s?) I think I've seen at quite a few events over the past 10 years or so, at first walking 5Ks or maybe 10Ks. There was at least one (5K?) participant who was using hiking poles on a paved moderately rolling course. At the Barry Manilow concert (not my preferred style, but Mrs. SVPete has been a fan since the mid 1970s) I probably saw at least 4-6 people being rolled into floor seating in wheel chairs. As you said, "folks who are genuinely handicapped usually want nothing more than to work a job and live as normal of a life as possible".

The DU OP may be more into CBD oil and/or essential oils, plus or minus incense and healing light.

What some consider a burden others believe gives them purpose....

NEEDHAM, Mass. -- A big party was held Monday to honor a longtime McDonald's employee for her three decades of service.
Freia David, who has Down syndrome, has worked as the fry girl at the McDonald's in Needham, Mass., for the last 32 years.
The restaurant invited the whole town to celebrate Freia's retirement, and even gave away free orders of French fries in her honor.

Last time I was at home depot, I observed one of their employees, in a wheel chair.

Many/most/all DU-Denizens would favor the lady having been aborted.

And if you objected, they would bitch at you for suggesting anyone should eat at McDonald's.

"drive the car"? What car, Lisa?:
July 7th, 2025
by Lisa Terrell, Organizer
Well I finally got down to the nitty gritty and sold the car, but the check was in the wrong name and now my ex has to deposit the funds and clear everything before I get anything to help. So now I am without car and trying to manage groceries, utility bills, and the lawyer's fees.

More accurately, probably, the car was titled in the ex's name and therefore the check had to be made out to him.
