How do you know that things are bad for the democrat party?  When Hakeem Jeffries comes out talking about what a big win for the democrats it is for a black man to win a non-partisan race for mayor of Omaha.  That's how.

GOP Fears Omaha's First Black Mayor Is Start of a Democratic Wave
An Omaha, Nebraska mayoral candidate made history on Tuesday as he clinched victory over a longtime Republican incumbent in a race that should have been a “slam-dunk” for the GOP, according to the state’s Republican governor.

Democrat John Ewing Jr. will become Omaha’s first Black mayor after defeating Jean Stothert, who was seeking a fourth term as the first female leader of Nebraska’s largest city, NBC News reported. The race was officially non-partisan, but Stothert had aligned herself with the Trump administration and GOP policies over her years in office, to which Ewing countered with a Democratic stance in his campaign.

“We embark on a new chapter, Ewing said Tuesday to a room of screaming supporters as Stothert conceded. “I am deeply honored and humbled to stand before you today as your mayor elect.”

On X, top Democrat Hakeem Jeffries added, “Another big win for the Democratic Party.”

Ewing led the race by 10,900 votes with just under 90,000 votes counted late Tuesday. Around 7,000 votes were left before Stothert threw in the towel.

I think the headline should have been:  "Black Man Beats White Woman in Omaha!"

They're in trouble and they know it.

A city with a population of almost 500K is not insignificant, but trying to make its mayoral race some sort of bellwether is  :stoner:-fantasy.

TL; DR: Republicans fear Omaha election is the precursor to a blue wave, according to... *checks notes*... Democrats.

Let's see, Democrats' polling numbers are in the tank, their party "leaders" are busy fighting each other, and Trump is racking up successes. But yeah, Democrats are totally positioned for a blue wave. ::)

To be honest here , what cost her the elction more than anything else is tha fact she pushed for a streetcar system most people didn't want and haven't for years. Not one city that has one has made a profit plus they can't get anyone to use the current bus system all that much. Then problems with the streets are another issue. Last year Omaha had a garbage truck fall into a sinkhole and it took them two weeks to repair the hole and not long after the accident the power and gas in the area was cut off. There are other reasons but her being white and him black isn't the issue.

There's nothing in that article that supports the title. No GOP fears of a Dem wave are cited.

Also, mayoral races focus on local issues, not federal issues.

Fears of what?

Every county in Nebraska but 1 or 2 go deep red, and that is not going to change any time soon.

After my last post here. I went to go to the local WallyWorld and stopped by the Applebee's to get some dinner. Whie there I heard the bartender and one of the customers talking about the election and the customer said that while Mayor Jean was in office Homelessness rose 1200%. I don't know how true that is, but it does explain things that happened while I worked in Downtown Omaha for about ten years.

The condominium that I worked at for eight years as a Security guard finally added locks to the outside doors to keep people from sleeping in the entryways and then when I was placed across the street at the then Downtown library, the homeless would hang out there and I would have to watch over them to make sure they were not sleeping and doing other things to disrupt things. I would sometimes catch them in the children's area and have to asl them to leave. There were other things I had to bounce them out of the building for but they wouldn't have had me and an Omaha cop there just for decoration if not for issues going on there.

The bigger question is did a cop jump out of the bushes?  :rotf:

In sneak attacks against the homeless, the cop jumps out of an old refrigerator box.
