Title: Credit Card question
Post by: FlippyDoo on March 03, 2025, 09:24:21 AM
I went to use my credit card yesterday, and it was declined. I’ve had this credit card for 30 years. Never been late on a payment. It usually has a zero balance, but right now it’s at about 1% of the card’s credit limit so I was concerned.

I called today to find out why it was declined. They said that last month in a single day the card had three authentication charges of $0, and their records do not show where the charges originated. Has anyone ever heard anything like that?

In my records, I can’t find any money or online activity on that day (or within a day or two of that day) that might have instigated something like that. Anyway, they’ve cancelled the existing card and are sending a new one. I don’t like it getting declined, but I’d much rather them lock it and have it declined than deal with a bunch of fraudulent charges.

:rotf: No, but if I thought that there was much of a market for a gray-haired old fart with a bad knee on one side and sciatica screwing up the other "good" side, I'd probably give it a shot. Come to think of it, the only such market would probably be from DUers and that would be much too much hassle to deal with.

I had both my cards declined at the doctors office and they only had a few dollars balance on them. Turns out they tried to tap it to read, but the cards would only work if they were swiped sometimes if you stop to buy gas or pay by card in a Walmart or something theyhit the card for a dollar to see that it’s valid, but it’s good. You got a new one.

Yeah, it's just odd to me that the CC company doesn't know who was doing the "checking". They (the tech overlords) seem to know everything else. For instance, I can verbally mention to my wife that I need to remember to buy something and the next time I go online I'm bombarded with advertising for the product that I mentioned.
