DUmmies on their knees for Zelensky. Trump and Vance told Z where to go this afternoon.

As I post in the Shoutbox, Trump blaming Ukraine for the current war and calling Zelensky a dictator was as foolish as it was false. I had thought it unnecessary, but someone should remind Trump how well Munich 1938 worked.

I find Russians to be, at best, a misbegotten breed. I believe Putin's war is an ongoing act of pure expansionist aggression. I am delighted to see his military humiliated and hollowed out. Russia is a rival of the United States, if not a full fledged enemy, and it should be treated as such.
1. That said, the US has given the lion's share of support. We deserve something for our largesse. We absolutely should not commit our own troops. Europe needs to defend their own homes.
2. The democrats crying about this are the same people who said 9/11 was the chickens coming home to roost. They called us imperialists and baby killers and explicitly sided with the jihadists. Their caterwauling here is not based on any love of the US.
-
Personally I think it was foolish to just keep throwing money at the Ukraine without some sort of a payback and without some sort of accounting where it went, and I definitely don’t want to see American troops on the ground anywhere else in the world unless someone’s invading America, they belong on our beaches to repel them.
We haven’t won a war since World War II we’ve lost a lot of good young men and women for not and billions and trillions of dollars of treasure pissed away.
One thing I will say is Russia is the best enemy we ever had. It went through. God knows how many years of the Cold War, saber, rattling and threatening to blow each other off the face of the Earth, but there was never a shot fired. I meant just saddens me to see so many lives, wasted for nothing so much destruction. It’s disgusting.

I would not be surprised if little Zman loses power over today's performance. I think Western Europe just collectively shit their pants. That was a no nonsense message that they are now left alone to support Ukraine with ZERO assistance from Uncle Sugar. As to the Russian people I think it shows Trump will be a fair minded arbitrator in peace negotiations. I have no direct opinion on what Putin thinks but IMHO, he thinks little of it one way or the other. One other thing, if little Zman can be dethroned, this will do it.
Funny how all the 60s hippies now want war all the time.

Listening to that dress-down today reminded me of the line from Goodfellas:
Billy Batts: I'm only kidding with you. We're having a party, I just came home and I haven't seen you in a long time and I'm breaking your balls, and you're getting ****ing fresh. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you.
Tommy DeVito: I'm sorry too. It's okay. No problem.
Billy Batts: Okay, salud.
Billy Batts: [takes a drink] Now go home and get your ****ing shinebox.

So, should Ukraine have surrendered when Putin invaded (for the second time!) and tried to conquer?
Is it bizarre that Ukrainians who remember Russian suppression of Ukrainian language and culture during the Soviet era and who lost parents, grandparents, and great grandparents courtesy of Stalin starving 5 or 10 million Ukrainians in the 1930s don't want to be ruled by Putin?
Ukraine had no choices other than to fight or to surrender to a known murderous oppressor.
And before someone tries the straw man, I do not and never have advocated or supported US troops being sent to Ukraine.

A sweatshirt and 5.11 pants in the oval office. ::)
I have not seen so much disrespect for the office since Clintons BJ and Obama's feet on the resolute desk.

It is possible for two things to be true: Putin needs his ass handed to him, and Zelensky is a grifter who is benefiting from the war. I don't think we should be funding a Biden-style crook.

This is one of the best recaps I've read thus far today, and I'll snip parts of it for brevity:
Nolte: Zelensky Threw His Country Under the Bus to Audition for MSNBC
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s Oval Office appearance was, without question, the biggest public self-immolation by a country’s leader in world history. First, Zelensky arrives at the White House dressed like a tiny Ninja. Then, in front of the American media in the Oval Office with President Trump and Vice President Vance sitting right there, he challenges Vance to explain how diplomacy would be possible today when when American diplomacy failed under former President Obama in 2014. “What kind of diplomacy, JD, are you speaking about?” the Tiny Ninja sarcastically asked like a wiseass. “What do you mean?”
My mouth literally swung open. First off, when you are in a public forum, you do not address the Vice President by his first name, especially after you show up without a tie. Secondly, you don’t disrespect the President and Vice President with your stupid talking points. That’s true whether you are in public or private. Here’s a guy who is only able to hang on to his country because of ongoing American generosity to the tune of hundreds of billions in cash and weaponry, and there he is talking down to our Vice President and asking him hostile questions while insulting American diplomacy as feckless. To his great credit, Vance roared back with… “I’m talking about the kind of diplomacy that’s going to end the destruction of your country.” And then Vance laid the pipsqueak out:
Mr. President, with respect I think it’s disrespectful for you to come into the Oval Office and try to litigate this in front of the American media. Right now you guys are going around and forcing conscripts to the front lines because you have manpower problems. You should be thanking the President for trying to bring an end to this conflict.
Basically, Zelensky shit all over the very people who are keeping him and his country alive in order to what exactly…? Receive applause from the regime media?
Barack Obama and Joe Biden treated Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu like he was some sort of virus, but never once did you see Netanyahu appear to be anything but grateful and respectful. I am on record backing Ukraine and Zelensky. Nothing would’ve made me happier than to see Putin humiliated back to his orders. But enough is enough. Ukraine cannot win the war. We can’t afford to fund this war any longer. People on both sides are dying with no end in sight. Ukraine war supporters have still not answered my questions from last week, and now I have one more: Why should we support an unstable, unprofessional, reckless, narcissistic, ungrateful maniac who has no intention of ending the war? He obviously wants a forever war or to lose his country entirely. He surely doesn’t want peace.
God bless Trump and Vance. They were absolutely magnificent.

You seriously believe that Zelensky is crafty enough to skim US aid - despite the fact that much/most of it is military hardware - while stupidly risking his life by remaining in a war zone? That's just absurd.
-

Bit of a strawman there. Also it would be three times, one under globalist and POS GWB, one under preezy shit Midas, and one under Joepedo Dementia patient.
But none under Trump. There are arguments to be made for why Putin is justified pushing back against the NATO encroachment. IMHO one of the bigger is that the Ukraine was shelling Russian speaking Donbas. Adn Joey shit for brains pushing NATO to accept Ukraine (A NO GO for Russia) and saying a little invasion would be OK. Come on now.
-

...
Not at all. The rhetorical question introduces the simple fact that Ukraine had two options, surrender or fight.
As to who caused the war, Russia invaded, under Putin's orders. LIEden's "guilt" is having communicated weakness, which Putin took to mean that invading Ukraine would be "safe".
-

Without a doubt. Not many make a career jump from comedian to president. That requires some craftiness. And, considering Ukraine was already famous for being among the most corrupt governments out there, getting some expert skim-lessons wouldn't be that difficult.
And, although much or most US aid to Ukraine wasn't in cash, around $25B since July 2023 has been in cash. And, as we know, Biden's band of idiots were not worth a damn at accountability and/ or verification of how, where, our money was distributed.
So, yea, I'm sure Zelensky is financially secure. No matter which side you're on, walking into the oval office with cameras everywhere acting defiant was beyond a miscalculation. It was stupid.

Yes.

He's craftier than most US politicritters, and they've had their hands in the USAID till for decades. If Musk's shutdown of the agency has shown us anything, it's that that entire bureaucracy was designed as a money laundering organization of as much US taxpayer money as they could shell out. Accountability be damned.

Wow. Enjoy the absurdity you seem to want to be true.
While an actor (sometimes comedic) and not a comedian, Ronald Reagan made exactly such a "career jump" though over a period of years. Zelensky seems to have been sickened by the corruption such as what VP Biden protected and run against the corrupt political culture. Even while at war Zelensky has gotten rid of some corrupt actors in Ukraine's government.
Meanwhile, contrary to what some conservatives seem to want to believe, Russia, not Ukraine, is the most corrupt country in EuroLand.

It would be bizarre if they remembered russian suppression of ukranian language and culture, but turned a blind eye to ukranian outlawing of religion, opposition parties, elections, free speech, and so forth.
Any pretense that ukrain is a good actor in this mess, is a false pretense.

Again, why can't both be true? Ukraine and Russia are two turds in the same bowl. Neither is worth American money or blood.

I know this is speculation but here goes.
Hunter was grifting off Ukraine corruption.
Joe was probably never in charge or command so who was it that had him green light Russia invading?
https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/19/politics/russia-ukraine-joe-biden-news-conference/index.html
Once Russia invaded the money and arms flowed immediately.

Does anyone think there was any accounting for the billions given?
How much of the war was winked at so that the Biden crime family could launder enormous sums?

I believe what you’re saying is true and obviously this is not a question with an easy answer. I don’t think there’s a solution that’s going to make anyone happy. I just hate to see more young men, dying, cities, being destroyed for a war with the Ukrainians and the end will probably lose.
And my other objection is to just be handing out billions of dollars and ship loads of armament that we may need without any questions of payback or even a thank you. Zelinski could’ve at least showed some respect for the United States was given him so much to show up at a high-level meeting with a coat and tie, not dressed like he just got done working on his tank and expecting a wheelbarrow full of money to take home with them.
-
Before I begin, remember that, in addition to being a fictional spirit-guide, I’m also a genuine country hick so keep that in mind.
Although I probably wouldn’t have handled things the way that they were handled, I don’t have any real issues with the way Trump and Vance handled the situation because I assume (yeah, that’s usually not a good thing) that they have more in-depth info than I have.
As I watched their discussion and the discussions on here concerning Putin’s invasion, it brought to mind something from my youth. There was a guy in my general area who was a self-taught wildlife expert. He traveled all over the country advocating for wildlife. His main focus was snakes. Especially venomous snakes. He’d put on shows educating the public about snakes, and he’d rescue snakes. Again, it was usually venomous snakes. I heard him say one time that out of the thousands of venomous snakes that he’d dealt with that he’d only been bitten once. On that occasion, he’d caught a venomous snake for one of his upcoming educational demonstrations. He said he put the snake that he’d caught in one of his standard bags to take to his home. When he got home, he reached in to grab the bag, but he got careless. He grabbed the bag in the wrong place, and the snake bit him. That was the only time that he’d ever gotten bitten, and he said that he never blamed the snake. He knew what snake was capable of, and the snake was just being a venomous snake. He said that HE was the one that screwed up and that if HE would have been paying closer attention the bite would not have happened. I view the invasion of Ukraine in a somewhat similar light. As much as I despise Putin, Putin was just being what Putin is. If the USA would have had a real president, I’m not so sure that the invasion would have happened. I put most of the fault at whoever or whatever group was supposed to be playing US president at the time.
When the invasion did happen, like most people I fully supported Ukraine and Zelenskyy. I’ve been very impressed with the Ukrainian people’s bravery, but it’s getting to the point that they are like a person with a cut on the leg that has developed gangrene. They’ve got to decide if they want to keep trying to fight the gangrene and risk losing the entire body or if they want to sacrifice the limb to safe the body. It’s a tough decision either way.
As far as Zelenskyy goes, I initially was impressed and viewed him as a freedom fighter standing strong for his county. I'm still not in the anti-Zelenskyy camp, but the longer things stretch on, the more he’s beginning look like one of those televangelists who talk about your soul and wellbeing while asking for everyone’s money. I don't know if he's skimming money or not, but I would be interested to know if his net worth has increased during this war while his country has suffered.
On a different but somewhat similar topic, I recently realized that in my high school and college career I never had a course that dealt with the NATO Treaty in any real depth, and I’ve recently begin wondering about something that some of you guys probably know the answer to. Let’s say a new country that we’ll call Scamastan joins NATO. A few years after joining, without the knowledge of the other NATO members, Scamastan has been doing secret ops on their neighbor who we’ll call LeaveMeAloneton. It gets to the point that LeaveMeAloneton feels that it has no other choice but to attack Scamastan. If the other NATO nations find that Scamastan essentially “had it coming” is there a way, within the treaty, to get around Article 5?

... ukranian sic outlawing of religion ...
In the real world, after Russia invaded and after the Moscow controlled Ukrainian Orthodox Church started spouting Putin propaganda, the Moscow controlled "church" was outlawed BUT the Ukrainian Orthodox Church that is actually based in Ukraine continues (as does, probably, other Christian sects).
Given that your first claim is facially false, I'm not going to burn time DDGing your other claims. Pundit factcheck yourself.

I am on record backing Ukraine and Zelensky.
It's a pity that this has to be said in any forum. The whole of Eastern Europe, with the possible exception of most of Poland, is a cesspool of scumbaggery and corruption and always will be. It's Africa with money and haircuts.

Zelensky is starting to believe what the liberal press says about him and I think that is the root of his problem.

Your allegations are without evidence. You understand that they can be dismissed likewise?
Ukrain outlawed 11 opposition parties , ALLEGING russian ties. Those allegations were never proven, yet they were acted upon. Did you support that? Sounds like something that happened to our current President. Did you support that?
Ukrain has also not had elections in 6ish years, due to a declaration of martial law which *gasp* keeps zelinski in power.
As I said, any pretense that ukrain is a good actor in this mess, is a false pretense.

The tripe that leftist legacy media peddles about Slob-o-mir and Ukraine being as pure as the wind driven snow is complete garbage. Both Ukraine and Russia are corrupt as hell, and Putin is a f*cking worthless dictator. But that does not absolve their golden boy Zelenskyy.
Listened to the entire exchange yesterday and the slob sounded akin to a petulant child. While I hope that "The" Ukraine does ultimately prove successful, this reminds me of a sporting event (this year's Super Bowl, last year's World Series), when I wished that both sides lose.
Slimy world leaders don't show up in the people's house and disgrace the leaders that you're begging for billions with nothing in return.
-
I thought it interesting that Zelenskyy wore the same shirt to meet Trump that he wore campaigning for Kamala.
He’s a grifter. If he can’t agree to pay back what we’re giving him, he can stand on his own.

I am really starting to realize how much the world treats the US as a giant, bottomless treasury. Depending on which numbers you are looking at, over 40% of the funding for Ukraine has been from the US. Both the UN and Who have stated that they will have difficulty continuing their efforts without the US funding them.
Zelensky is taking the US support for granted, because everybody has told him how wonderful and righteous he is for the last 4 years. But, canceling elections due to being at war, and then talking about how far away the end of the war is does deserve a side eye.

I thought about that, but in my European experiences, the people there are sort of nasty already.
