I've decided to retire.
Long story, but I’ve been working a crappy job
for the past three and a half years (after a 20 year span with a business that closed). The one appealing thing has been that we work from home.
The company is now requiring us to go back in to the office several days a week, which will mean sitting in traffic about two and half hours per day.
I’m six months out from my full retirement age, but I think I’m just done. I’m signing up for Social Security this week, and then plan to leave the end of the month.
Just putting this down in print feels so liberating. I’m excited. Give me your DU wisdom.

Does seem like a small mount.
K&R!
The neck beard tells hamsterjill to get out there and live life because you never know how long you've got.

So the "real" reason hamsterjill is retiring is being required to work in her employer's office? A 2-2.5 hour round-trip commute? BTDTGTTS (you do what you gotta do), and 5 days a week, not just 2 or 3 days a week like hamsterjill. And with just 6 months to full retirement?
Why does it feel like the commute is a smokescreen pretext rather than the true reason? My evidence-free speculation is that either hamsterjill has been lazy and less than productive in her WFH and doesn't like this being exposed or she has been an obnoxoid disliked by her coworkers. Or both, obviously.

And with just 6 months to full retirement?
This just means "6 months to full Social Security benefits." They're "retiring" from making an effort to earn an honest buck.

I understood hamsterjill's comment to mean that she is ~64 1/2 years-old.
