Dummie calls a plumber, decides to take back his tip because he cracked a SloJo joke.
Which leads me to get sidetracked... do you guys tip plumbers? I don't tip people who come to my home to fix stuff. I didn't know this was a thing.

Tell me to chill.
So it's Saturday afternoon in frigid New England and suddenly we realize we have no hot water. My husband hits the "reset" button and nothing. He calls the company we deal with and gets an almost immediate response even though it's the weekend. The repair guy will be here in an hour. And he appears as promised, an older man who seems very friendly and I tell him I'm sorry we got him out on a weekend, yada, yada, yada. It turns out the motor burned out and he has a replacement. So far so good. Before he arrived, we had discussed whether this was an occasion that called for tipping. We usually tip delivery guys and we figured getting a repair person out on a weekend might merit a tip. So I put a $20 bill under the duck decoy near the door. He's still working on the fix as I type this and a little while ago my husband whispered something to me. He said when the guy opened the control box he made the remark that it looked as scrambled as Joe Biden's brain. Oh. My. God. I have to keep my mouth shut. We need hot water. The tip is already gone from under the decoy and back in my purse. AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH. What's wrong with people????????

Guess the guy drove up from Massachusetts, but Trumpers are pretty rare down there, too. Oh, well. He's gone now. Life evens out. Yesterday I was at the dentist over in Vermont and we had a laugh about RFK Jr.'s brain worm. Nice garden!
Ahh... now I see it is Ok to crack about politics and mix it with business, right?

I don't tip repairmen; however, on this occasion I would likely make an exception and offer a tip because...
1. He is working on the weekend
2. He got there in less than 24 hours
3. He got there when he said he would
4. He had the part on hand to complete the repair
5. He was friendly
6. He apparently did the job requested
7. And, finally, since he was observant enough to know that SloJo has a scrambled brain, he most likely voted for Trump in the election which means he not only saved the DUmmies from freezing water. He also saved them from the Kackling Knob-Gobbler continuing SloJo's reign of destruction on the country even though the DUmmies were too stupid to realize that they needed saving.

In my experience, when I've called for an emergency night time/weekend plumbing or furnace types of problems there has always been an extra charge--not exorbitant--for the special service.

Probably a direct vent motor. If not venting safety prevents burner ignition.

I was all settled in watching my West Wing tapes while I searched for a place where I could get my ninth COVID booster shot. I had a lentil smoothie in the mixer and all was well in the world. I guess I'm just a sucker, but on the other hand, everyone here is a good Dem so I figured once I fixed whatever was broken we could smoke a joint and maybe the wife would peg the husband while I watched. So I get there and not two minutes into it I notice they have a Confederate flag on the wall and the husband comes in wearing a holster with double revolvers. 'Are you one of them peace faggots?' He asked. Well, I reminded him that TFS stole the election and Elon Musk is a poopface, and I marched straight out of there."

One house I owned had steam heat with hot water off the boiler.

It was serviced by the fuel oil dealer, so um yeah, it could be a bit trying at times. This is not exactly the one I had in that house but so darn close it woud be hard to tell the difference. Note the pump.

Boiler systems would blow higher 'n hell if they didn’t have a recirc pump to keep the water from standing until the faucet valve opens. That's where you might find a motor in a hot water system.

Like SVP, I don't live where it gets very cold. We count our time below freezing in hours, so some of what I've seen upthread is foreign to me.
