MAGA Christmas Party Encounter.
Meeting MAGA and having words with them is pretty rare for me. Not my traveling circle. So, I attended at holiday party where I knew almost no one except for my few family members. I stumbled upon a conversation whereupon I heard, "California is being ruined by all those shoplifters with no respect for the law."
I jumped right into the deep end. I said I worry more about price gouging, merged up grocery conglomerates, hospitals that upcharge $100 for a 3 cent bandaid, and gas companies that use a trashcan fire to say "the refinery is down" to raise your gas prices.
Now, keep in mind, I have all the appearance of MAGA. Old, short haired white guy. From my comments I could see the sand had been thrown into their gearbox. I moved on.
Merry Christmas MAGA. Oh, and **** you very much.

Well, stores and restaurants in several major cities have closed due to shoplifters and thuglings assaulting customers and employees. So there is a lot of truth to the hyperbole/stereotype.
I said I worry more about ...
A what-about-ism discussion diversion attempt, :rotf: .
... price gouging ...
Evidence-free claim disproved by one or more grocery chain execs.
... merged up grocery conglomerates ...
DUmmie kairos12 does not understand supermarket chains' stock-turn-around business model or economies of scale (ECON101-grade information), unsurprisingly.
... hospitals that upcharge $100 for a 3 cent bandaid ...
I'm pretty sure that the costs for ordering, stocking, and dispensing that "3 cent bandaid" are far greater than $0.03 each. More ECON101-grade information of which DUmmie kairos12 is ignorant or is dishonestly ignoring.
... gas companies that use a trashcan fire to say "the refinery is down" to raise your gas prices ...
As Evidence-free claims go, that one is stupid. Maybe if the Enviros and NIMBYs would get off refinery companies' @$$ and let them expand existing refineries, let them build new refineries, and end the boutique-fuel-blend scam gas prices would be less sensitive to refinery maintenance. Rolling back gas taxes in high-tax states like California would do nice things to gasoline prices, too.
From my comments I could see the sand had been thrown into their gearbox.
What the "MAGA was probably thinking:

I love how they all fancy themselves as ‘smarter than’ in these tall tales. It’s always amusing to think about them running all over town being so smug. :lmao:

Well, the kackling knob-gobbler said that there is price gouging so to her brainless followers that means that there is price gouging.
The one thing (well, one of the things) that I can't understand about DUmmies is... If you're going to make up a story, why don't you take the time and make it a good story?

And then everyone broke out in applause and a dozen dancing transvestites came out of the closet, and two policeman jumped out of the Christmas tree. I felt 6 feet tall even though I’m only 5 foot two I had to let them know. I was the smartest guy in the room. And before I left, I said bah humbug happy Kwanzaa to you all.

In-N-Out heiress says she closed Oakland location because it was ‘absolutely dangerous’
https://nypost.com/2024/12/24/business/in-n-out-closed-its-absolutely-dangerous-oakland-location/ (https://nypost.com/2024/12/24/business/in-n-out-closed-its-absolutely-dangerous-oakland-location/)
The In-N-Out heiress whose grandparents founded the popular burger chain said that the company’s decision to close its sole Oakland location was due to the site being “absolutely dangerous.”
“I mean, there was a lot,” Lynsi Snyder told Marissa Streit of the right-leaning video network PragerU on Monday.
“There was actually — gunshots went through the store, there was a stabbing, there was a lot.”
...
Snyder, 42, said that the company shuttered the profitable outpost “for the safety of our associates” because “we just felt like, this is not OK.”
Her comments were first reported by the news site SFGATE.
In-N-Out made the decision to pull out of Oakland after an 18-year presence in the city this past January. ...
The location was profitable, but In-N-Out decided that profit mattered less than customer and employee safety.
Further, from https://www.sfgate.com/food/article/in-n-out-owner-talks-about-former-oakland-store-19998551.php :
“I mean, there was a lot,” Snyder told Streit. “There was actually — gunshots went through the store, there was a stabbing, there was a lot.”
Snyder added: “For the safety of our associates, we just felt like, this is not OK.”
In January, In-N-Out’s chief operating officer Denny Warnick said in a statement to SFGATE that although the Oakland store was “busy and profitable,” customers and employees were “regularly victimized by car break-ins, property damage, theft, and armed robberies” despite the company’s best efforts to “create safer conditions.” In her “Real Talk” interview, Snyder added that the amount of time it took police to respond to issues at the Oakland restaurant was “alarming.”
The restaurant closure earlier this year made national headlines as it marked the first time in In-N-Out’s 75-year history that a location was permanently closed. The closure prompted widespread discourse on social media and was quickly used as political fodder. ...
As that last, Republicans Pounce, sentence I quoted suggests, the SFGate news site is reliably Lib/Prog. A nearby Denny's restaurant also closed, for the same reason, https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/denny-s-restaurant-oakland-shuts-down-due-crime-18640790.php .

These people are stupid.
the straw that breaks/broke the camel's back
idiom
: the last in a series of bad things that happen to make someone very upset, angry, etc.
It had been a difficult week, so when the car broke down, it was the straw that broke the camel's back.

There is a reason DU-folk are often called DUmmies here in the Cave:
