startup technology company eliminated DEI in 2023. Reverted back to strict meritocracy of accomplishments and skillsets. We need Engineers with pretty hard to find skill sets. We let the resume talk.

DEI has nothing to do with products, it has everything to do with having a diverse set of opinions running things to be able to recognize threats and opportunities better. More diverse companies outcompete more homogenous companies because of this.

OK, I'm speaking from what I've seen for over 4 1/2 decades in tech. The members of the teams that designed and produced every piece of tech hardware and software Johnny2X2X used to post this idiocy were selected because of their abilities, not for their skin color, type of reproductive plumbing, how they use their reproductive plumbing, or what they think their reproductive plumbing ought to have been. The same is true of the companies that created and produced everything in Johnny2X2X's home, from the appliances to the food to the house' plumbing and wiring.
OTOH, companies that choose people for their skin color, reproductive plumbing ... over people's abilities are "giving" talented people to their competitors, and that is likely to work out poorly.

Most people automatically assume that you're most likely an idiot if you're posting at DU, but you went ahead and removed all doubt of your idiocy.
You own a small company whose workers deal with trigonometry on a daily basis. You place an ad needing a new employee. You have two applicants. One individual who barely graduated high school and whose job experience primarily is working at Burger King just happens to be black. The other individual has an associate degree in mathematics and is, at night, working toward getting a bachelor's degree in mathematics and just happens to be white. You, in your vast stupidity, just said that you think the company owner should disregard the applicant who has the background that fits that actual needs of the job just because that individual's skin is not dark enough. How much trigonometric solutions do you think the first individual's skin color can provide?

Good luck getting any of that to materialize. Computers don't like it when the definitions in your code mean whatever the hell you feel they should mean at whatever given moment. And, computers get really pissy when the code says the definitions are one thing, and the "user" insists the meanings are something else entirely.
That's how you get Skynet, people...

That old line about "competitive advantage in the long term" has been around for 30 years or more, I remember it from my corporate days. That is the definition of long term and the diversity crap hasn't held water. My old company who I worked for no longer exists, swallowed up by another company who didn't fawn over DEI. Some HR woke clown sends out frequent annoying e-mails in my decent sized company that are always utilizing and celebrating every obscure holiday deemed as important. Got one recently heralding "Transgender Day of Visibility". Was I supposed to order gifts and cards? Sometimes they need to prepare us with enough advanced notice.

Sounds like a contracting company that re-pitches roofs for house additions. Incorrect calculations would result in insane material and time wastage.

Several years ago I was doing some consulting project engineer work and the president of the company was hiring two software people for that project. He asks me if he should hire a couple software guys with 20+ years of machine control experience or two hotshots just out of college that were less expensive.
I told him I always buy experience. Well he hired the hotshots which were damn near impossible to work with because they knew everything. I left that project one of two that I did not see to successful completion because the president would not fire the tow hotshots. The project never did get done and the company went out of business about six months later. The two hotshots were diverse an Asian woman and a gay male. Diversity is not a strength. It is a weakness that kills companies.

Harley Davidson
Toyota
Ford
Budweiser
And more. They have all learned the long time saying of "Go Woke, Go Broke" Isn't just some cute phrase.

I had heard about, but not yet seen it. Were it not for "JAGUAR" at the end of the ad it could have been for a Paris fashion show of clothes - and people - no normal person would want to be within 20 feet of.
