The Magistrate's obituary
It will run tomorrow in the Chicago Tribune.

So, his family decided to note that one of his major life achievements was to be an "esteemed denizen of the online community Democratic Underground".  That is perhaps one of the most pitiful things I've ever seen.

I know I'll lose some respect for saying it, but the fact that it is considered one of his primary accomplishments in life (and worthy of an obituary mention) makes me actually feel a bit sorry for the guy.

He looks like a denizen from underground. : :thatsright::

He also looks like he’s never had grooming lessons either.

One less hate monger at the dump.

My parents always said, if you can't say anything good, don't say anything...

so here's what I say,

Known for his knowledge of WW1-era aircraft? Well, I have a couple of interests that might seem odd to some people - WW2 PTO naval battles and ships and Empire Builder series board games - but I don't think my wife or kids would see either as worth including in my future obituary.

No respect lost here as I totally agree.

Have said many times in these parts that I don't relish the death of anyone regardless of political stripe. But my political views are about the least important thing about me or what people will remember about me I do pass on someday.

And to have such an insignificant website to be an esteemed denizen of is hardly a life accomplishment.

Here's a re-written more apropos obit:

Arrogant, condescending, know-it-all, jack-ass whose lived his entire life through the prism of politics above all others sadly passed away on Monday of what doctors describe as an emerging phenomenon known as Trump Derangement Syndrome.

:hi5: and well put! His TDS has probably been his way of life for 9 years, though.

Most likely also contributed to his early demise.   :-)

Trump your magnificent bastard!

Anger and hatred tend to be self-destructive emotions. And "The Magistrate" died not a lot older than yours truly, so not too old by US averages.

Thank you for the kind words, sir.

TDS is a derivative of Bush Derangement Syndrome, as coined by the late libertarian-conservative writer Charles Krauthammer sometime in the the Bush 43 era.

To go off on a tangent about the now late "Mr." Berkman, I'm wondering what part of Chi-town he resided. Especially since I called that town my home for a decade and know the area well. Our friend Tess Anderson might be able to find some further details, and it isn't worth my time to do my own independent research.

Knowing the types of Chicago libs who often reside there, I'd hazard a guess that he and his "throuple" lived in Oak Park, Rogers Park, Bucktown, or even perhaps in one of the high-rises on the near North side. Likely over-educated in worthless academic studies and most definitely an pompous jerk, perhaps had a few advanced degrees in sociology and political science. Not hard skills, more oft the standard theoretic gobbledy-gook which hoity-toity libs specialize in.

Maybe I'm getting bitter in my later years, but **** that mother****er. I am glad he's dead.

I agree.  To have seventy years of existence distilled down to "he liked WWI history and he posted on a political website" is a sad reflection on whatever else he did with his life.  No mention of career or travel or any of the other things that shaped his history.  Also, notably, no mention of actually doing anything for the Democratic Party other than posting at DU.  I would think that, if it was worth mentioning his politics, it would be worth mentioning how he actually tried to get Dems into office.  Since it wasn't included, one has to assume he was yet another keyboard warrior, all talk but no action.  But then we already knew that.

Perchance is Debra Nightingale DU's SheWhoMustBeObeyed.

yes, they both had an open marriage - I though Deb's husband was dead but guess not - they're not far from Shitcago:

Deb used to be into S&M, that's what went on with The Magistrate, although when Jim and Mary's son died, she watered it down:

I’m not originally from Chicago and don’t have much family living close by. But over the course of 25 years, Brendan’s family became my Chicago family. When I started having everyone over for Christmas dinner, it turned into a tradition and got better every year. Now Brendan will always be there in our hearts. All my love and sympathy to my wonderful big-city family.

those pics of him there are probably close to the way the Magistrate looked like when he was younger. Not familiar with Chicago, but he and Mary lived here:

this is from his daughter's page, the Magistrate is the fat guy in the background:
