The United Kingdom has now gone full V For Vendetta. Listen to the London Met Police Chief Sir Mark Rowley expressing the desire to "throw the full force of the law at people" and jail those posting on social media platforms such as X for what he considers to be "hate speech." He sounds very much like Commander Lewis Prothero of V For Vendetta.
Hmmm... And the name "Starmer" does sound eerily like "Sutler."

This is why a constitution is important, specially the first and second amendment. The petty tyrants in charge value the immigrants more than the citizens.

These first and second amendments you mention, are they in the U.S.A. with us right now? :-) :cheersmate:

They are but how much longer we can hang on to them is in question.

Why are so many authoritarian dystopias set in England? 1984, V for Vendetta are top of the list, I'm sure there are others, lots of late 70s-early 80s British punk bands were dead set that Thatcher was going to rain down terror on any dissent, is there something in the water or just something historical I'm missing that fuels those thoughts over there? We've seen recent history like this story that indicates that paranoia wasn't wrong, but, seriously, what gives?

I guess since the sun set on the empire and they don’t have any indigenous people to abuse they are turning their authoritarian ways onto their subjects .

Historically the upper classes didn’t have much use for the lower classes other then to work them to death, look at how they mistreated the Irish and other indigenous peoples in their empire. I think the ruling class looks upon them with disdain much like our politicians view us. Only we have guns so that I believe is a limiter as to how far they can abuse us.

When their wannabeLordships can convince you that with a law or executive order, they can take them away from you is when you've lost.
They have no legitimate authority to take them away from you, because they never had the ability to grant said rights in the first place. And they were sure as hell never granted the authority to infring upon them.
When you stop misidentifying these clowns as leaders, all of a sudden what they say they can do doesn't appear so frightening.

The politicians of this country, especially the Dems have forgotten this.
William Wallace in Braveheart. There's a difference between us. You think the people of this country exist to provide you with position. I think your position exists to provide those people with freedom. And I go to make sure that they have it.

The Brits, like most in Europe, have National Healthcare, so it’s become a mindset. Once you decide to let the gov’t control an important part of your life, naturally you’ll have those who want to control other parts of your life until they control it all. That this nut wants to decide what is and isn’t hate speech is just another step.

And the fact that they want control outside their borders is really ridiculous. :thatsright:

My ancestors shot "representatives" of the British Government in job lots so that I might have the right to not give a shit what anyone in the British Government thinks about me, what I say, or what I might do.
I'd be happy to reapply the lesson until it sinks in if it proves necessary... :fuelfire:

I realize that Nineteen Eighty-Four was set in Britain, but it looks like we've got it going on over here right now. Orwell was just 40 years early.
Think about it...
Nineteen Eighty-Four: We've always been at war with Eurasia.
Also Nineteen Eighty-Four: We've always been at war with Eastasia.
Kamala: I'm against fracking.
Also Kamala: I'm not against fracking.
It's like they're turning the US into AmSoc and the mainstream media is their Ministry of Truth.

Maybe they think that they want to give it another go. Ok I'm up for it.
