This announcement today was BRILLIANTLY timed.
It completely pops the balloon of any remaining coverage of the Republican convention.
I bet Biden purposely timed this to be just after that convention, so they couldn't use that platform to start attacking Kamala Harris.
And I bet he's been spending the last several weeks gaming all of this out.

All he cares about is defeating DJT and he's selfless enough to get behind Prosecutor Harris and to throw her all his delegates.
She might have had more of a challenge in a Democratic primary; and, if she did win, the Republicans would have targeted her at their convention.
Now, they're the victims of a sneak attack by Biden and Harris -- and they aren't happy about this at all. They just went through a whole convention bad-mouthing a person who turns out not to be their November opponent.
And they chose a VP who is almost the worst possible option against her. And the D's get to choose their VP nominee after the R's have already put Vance out there.

Their entire campaign is/was based on running against President Biden. They are going to have projectile vomiting retooling the campaign if it comes to that. Too ****ing bad.
Meanwhile, I’m terribly upset and stressed out as to what is going on. My heart aches and I’m depressed.

The little political voice in my head is telling me Biden will drop out tomorrow. He'll let Trump have his big night at the RNC and then take the spotlight away on Friday. I've been in the "keep Joe" camp, but I get a sense something is about to give. Whatever happens, we've got to make sure whoever is running on the Democratic ticket at any level is elected in November. What a cluster****.

Schumer and Jefferies stop nomination process
Per ABC News.
BREAKING: Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries pushed the party to delay its nominating process, multiple sources tell ABC News.
This comes after Schumer met privately with Pres. Biden on Saturday in Rehoboth, Delaware. Following the meeting, Schumer only described it as a "good meeting."
A bunch of racist billionaires are trying to disenfranchise 14 million Democratic voters that have already chosen their candidate.
It's starting to feel like the Party is imploding and I am sick to my stomach. If they kick Biden off the ticket we will lose, especially so if they kick VP Harris off as well. This is a ****ing nightmare. I cannot believe the Democratic Party is doing this.

It's become downright insulting. Biden is clearly still lucid and up to the task, but the media refuses to let it go. Suddenly Trump is the golden boy rather than the orange boy and his advanced age and delusional ramblings aren't even mentioned. Because of the timing, the Dems basically have no other option than Harris (who even the Dems don't like). Because if they choose someone else there will be an all-out civil war in their party with the blacks leading the charge. And the RNC wasn't all about attacking Joe, but rather about showing how incompetent his entire administration, including Harris, has been. So, no, this timing does not seriously undercut anything that happened at the RNC, but it paints the Dems into a corner with no clear path to beat Trump. Their only hope is to try to stir up so much Trump-hate that they convince people to just vote against him, not for the Dem candidate. I expect to see a lot of negative ads, but not very many touting her abilities because she has done almost nothing as VP. It will be interesting to see if he gets included in any campaigning or if they just keep him hidden in the basement for the rest of his term.

It wouldn't surprise me to find out that Biden doesn't even know. In the days to come we had better be seeing Biden dictating and signing the letter documented by official presidential photographers. Such an unprecedented occurrence in our nation's history--they had better have all the i's dotted and all the t's crossed.

“Most presidential campaigns collect a contribution from donors in double the amount of the federal limit and allocate half to the primary election and half to the general election. Biden did that, and it was legal even though he really had no primary opposition. That means he and Harris have a large chunk of money that is only available to be spent in the general election,” Trainor said.
“However, if Harris doesn’t become the nominee, that means she never entered the general election, and those dollars are legally required to be refunded. The money cannot be transferred to the DNC or anywhere else — it must be refunded,” he said.
His comment appears to be the plain language of the FEC' guideline. That said, if Kammie is not nominated for President (or VP?) and doesn't throw a snit, she may try to "donate"/"transfer" the $$$ to the nominee in defiance of the guideline. IOW, "So sue me!" Because she believes she is above the law.
