I'm going to use this article, Assassination Attempt Aftermath (https://hotair.com/jazz-shaw/2024/07/14/assassination-attempt-aftermath-n3791786) to pick out a few details of what is "known":
First of all, the identity of the shooter seems to have been confirmed. Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania fired at least five or six shots with a rifle before being killed by a Secret Service counter-sniper team. (You can see a couple of pictures of him here. He looks like a geeky nerd, but clearly even nerds can be dangerous in certain circumstances.) Props to the Secret Service for their rapid, effective response.
Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania is believed to be the person who shot Trump and several rally attendees, the FBI confirmed. One person is believed to have died during the shooting and another is in critical condition.
... Crooks was located on a roof outside of the rally site. But that does suggest that there will need to be a quick review of the Secret Service protocols that are in place. Providing security for Trump must be a nightmare given his packed, chaotic schedule. But that roof was apparently an obvious spot where an assassin could make an attempt. They should have had someone stationed up there.
... Crooks has no known ties to the campaign, the police, or the Secret Service that we are aware of.

If you tell enough people and repeat it often enough that Donald Trump is "an existential threat", that his election "will be the end of our democracy", that "he will suspend The Constitution", that if he wins, "there will never be another election", that "he will eliminate our freedoms", that "Trump is a dictator", that "Trump is a Nazi"... eventually, some left-nut will do this. Hell, it's not even an accident, they were banking on it. It shows in their reaction to it all last night and today. Many of those on the left, mainly those with the loudest voices, lost their humanity long ago.
Years of violence, propaganda, and law-fare directed at Trump have failed, so this is their last line of defense since they have no viable policy to sell to voters.
For years I took the position that we were all looking for the same basic things, and that ideological differences didn't matter much if we simply try to understand things from the other point of view. That all changed with me starting with Obama, and the left have only accelerated the hate exponentially over that time. To me, it is now personal, and I have a serious dislike for those on the left because I can clearly see what they would do to me if they could get away with it. They are not fit to live among the rest of civilized society. Their thirst for power has no limits, and they simply cannot be trusted any longer.

Frankly, the media’s rhetoric, not just the politicians, has been to attack Trump as a threat to democracy, a would be dictator, and an autocrat unless someone stops him. MSNBC ran an entire series called “American Autocracy” about what life would be like under Donald Trump.
Now, the press is blaming Trump for not toning down the rhetoric. The press won’t be happy until Trump is killed.

I was at a friends house last night after the shooting. We were all talking about what had happened and what might take place afterwards. I knew there would be some sick crap in the media and online. One thing I mentioned to my friends was I doubted the media would take responsibility for all the hate they were putting out over the years. When a person has to take the major media to court over the lies that are told about them on TV and in Radio and then that same media says little to noting to apologize for the lies then that tells you everything you need to know about them. The media is not journalism and stopped being so decades ago.

Tom Carriveau claims he was hacked and did not author the post from his account, which appeared Saturday night and suggested disappointment that the shooter missed his target. The post ignited widespread backlash, leading to significant consequences for Carriveau.
“Damn, bad shot,” Carriveau posted on X. “Would have done the world a service.”
Now, he says he didn’t post the message and that somebody else did that. He claims his account was hacked by a nefarious actor who posted that comment about the former president after Saturday’s failed assassination attempt.
Steve Louwers, President of the Caseville Chamber of Commerce, announced that the board unanimously voted to terminate Carriveau’s membership. The decision was based on the post violating the chamber’s by-laws by engaging in conduct deemed unbecoming a charter member and practices detrimental to the community.

The Sioux Falls School District has fired a Ben Reifel Middle School behavior facilitator, after she made comments on social media regarding the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally Saturday in Pennsylvania.
Cassandra Oleson, on her personal Facebook page under the name Cassie Martin, which is now inactive, had posted “Shoot -- If only he would’ve had his scope sighted in correctly,” shortly after the assassination attempt by the person FBI identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.
A bullet grazed Trump’s upper right ear, leaving him bloodied but not seriously injured. One rally attendee was killed in the gunfire and two others were "critically injured," authorities later said.
The Sioux Falls School District said in a statement provided by district multimedia specialist Tory Stolen that its Code of Conduct policy “clearly outlines the high standards to which we hold all staff members, given the public trust in our responsibility to educate the children of our community and serve as positive role models,” the statement read.

Shreveport, TX – Phil Whipple, an employee with Race On, an auto racing broadcast company in Texas, has been fired after his comments regarding the failed assassination attempt against former U.S. President Donald J. Trump.
“Hey, rednecks,” Whipple said. “The next shooter isn’t going to miss. This was just to get your attention, and I see it worked quite well. By September 1st, that man will be DEAD. And the half of us in this great nation who understand what a threat he is to Democracy will stand and cheer.”
Race On said they terminated Whipple’s employment upon being made aware of his comments.
“We are aware of the post made by Phil Whipple. Those statements reflect Phil’s view, not RaceON’s, our racing community, sponsors, or partners. Phil‘s relationship with RaceON has been terminated,” the company said in a statement.
Later, Whipple, like others facing backlash for their comments, said his Facebook page had been hacked.

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The FBI investigation into the failed July 13 assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump has revived the argument over whether Big Tech firms should provide law enforcement with a backdoor method to break their own "unbreakable" encryption.
Weeks before the attempt on Trump’s life, the Secret Service received intelligence warning of an Iranian plot to kill the former president, according to federal law enforcement officials. But while experts are skeptical of any connection between the 20-year-old would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks and Iran, they haven't been able to access some of his communications 18 days later.
So it remains unclear who he was talking to, if anyone, and what topics would have been discussed.
"I think we've experienced a range of returns because some of the applications that he was using online were encrypted in nature," FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate said during a Senate hearing Tuesday under questioning from South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham.
The FBI has gained access to some of his emails, he said, but some of his encrypted communications remained undecipherable Tuesday.
