Would you like to share a DU memory?
I guess I am feeling nostalgic as a long time DUer about the "good old days", although I know we faced very serious challenges from the day the forum started.
I started thinking about when I first started posting here. Everything was new (even the internet) and it felt so empowering to communicate with other progressives.

Here's my memory: California Peggy once posted that she replied to everyone who responded to one of her OPs. And she really did. For a while, I felt that that was the coolest thing, and I tried to do so as well. Of course I didn't follow through for too long.  There's only one CP.

So many funny and significant things have happened here over the years. What do you remember?

I'll start with cops jumping out of the bushes and Bobo the hobo.

Doug Bulna aka DainBramaged hiding the remote in the rafters at a New Jersey car dealership, his former employer.  And getting fired due to our anonymous feedback to the dealership. Good times.

So many, I'll need to think it over. The one Ralph mentioned with Doug was a great one.

I just remember the first time I came across DU in 2004 thinking "I can't believe there's so many people that are that stupid in one place. And they're completely unaware how stupid they are. How could so many be that completely unaware of just how stupid they are?"

But compared to now, they were geniuses back then. I would have never believed that their level of stupid could exceed where it was. But they continually find new ways to deep even deeper into the stupid.

Thanks for mentioning those two, very memorable events and people in DU "lore". And during the ballad of the "Big Red Round One" as Frank called him, the whole Andy Stephenson saga was rife with weirdness. Including Wee Willie Rivers Pitt claiming he was going to send ninja lawyers after those of us who "killed Andy".

No mention of DU history is complete without Bouncy Ball.

I remember a DUmmie who launched anti-Bush signs with helium balloons and called it balloon blogging.

A summer 2017 declaration that Avenatti would "continue to kick ass". Which goes to show DU's (lack of) prowess at predicting. :-)

43. harming a hawk is a felony, stop throwing stones

keep the cat indoors or feed the cat to the hawk, i really don't care which, but it is a felony to interfere with a North American raptor (bird of prey) without a license

cats are not endangered, they are an overpopulation, it is the right of the hawk to defend its territory and to feed

it is an honor to have your cat eaten by a hawk

people who care about their cats keep them indoors, no excuses, there is no natural habitat for the housecat in north america

Speaking of straight up DUmp Monkey lunatics, I just followed the link to check, and I was amazed that there was nothing from Underground Panther (AKA: Ugh-Pee) responding either to that reply, the several others that were almost as bad or the thread in general.

I wonder if that was one of s/h/its electroshock treatment days???

And these go way back to the CU days when someone over at DU started making some dumb demotivator mems, so we decided to have some fun with it too, and here are some of the better ones I remember making:

Hello all. It's been awhile since I've posted, but I had to do so after seeing the title of this thread. Some long term members here may remember me from way back when I'd do some fictional spirit-guiding at the DUmp. Back then, they were an endless well of comic gold. What did they call themselves? The reality based community? Then they'd spend time talking about indigo children and spirit guides that smell like cigarette smoke and/or bacon. The best, to me, has to be Blackie the Ghost Chicken and the spectral travels to Panther Mountain by the male cat that's trapped in a human female's body. Of course, the cops in the bushes was up there, too. Then there were all of the fabricated grocery store and gas station rethuglican put downs or conversions. From what I've seen of the current DU population they are keeping up the idioticy, but their delusions and fabrications lack the quality of the DU old guard.
