FWIW... I placed some calls to try to confirm the "big" story rumor.

One was to my reporter/friend at the Baltimore Sun who covers politics. The other was to my reporter/friend at the Washington Post who covers local DC stuff.
They both said the same thing. Their newsrooms are buzzing about a big story that the Post has brewing on McCain. I pushed further and said, "The rumor I've heard has to do with Alzheimer's." The Sun reporter said, "I'm hearing the same thing." The Post reporter played coy then quickly changed the subject.
So there. I tried to get some actual facts about what was happening, but this is the best I could do. Obviously nothing definitive, but I believe SOMETHING is going on and that lonestarnot will be proven right in the next 24 hours.

I wasn't given a time frame, but one source said he was waiting for a third mode of confirmation. On anything truly major, he gets a lot of confirmations from different sources before he runs with a story.
Don't get me wrong, I never doubted lonestarnot... she's not one to get her feathers ruffled over nothing. I just wanted to try to help verify.
You know, it just hit me! What is the best way to build DU 'street cred'? Claim that you have inside information that'll make all your Obamagasmic dreams come true, and then claim that the story was 'buried' - that you and your friend were threatened by the scary men in the black SUVs and that you can no longer release the story for fear of your personal safety.
