I stand with the civilians.
First of all, I wish you WOULD go stand with the civilians, because Hamas is hiding behind them, and Hamas must be eradicated. Draw your own conclusions from that. (https://www.democraticunderground.com/100218348125)
Next, on a global scale, kpete and her dentist husband, who now reside in one of the wealthiest coastal communities in the US, are insanely wealthy. She's a stone-cold hypocritical asshole who probably cheered the Hamas attacks.
I hope she is affected when the sleeper cells activate.

This may be thought well beyond kpete's capacity, but the only military people, if any, in the Gaza Strip are IDF. The dudes and dudettes wanting to avoid IDF and Hamas are civilians (these are probably a small minority); the dudes and dudettes who support and help conceal/shield Hamas but aren't firing weapons are civilians; the Hamas Thugs and Thug-ettes firing weapons are civilians. The Hamas Thugs and Thug-ettes are not part of any official uniformed military force, they are therefore civilians.
It would be nice to think at least one DU-member has thought through these facts and has the courage to call out kpete's ignorance and stupidity, but I'm not expecting it.

As in Vietnam, you can't always tell. Some of those who move about you peacefully during the day are some of the insurgents who come out to kill you at night.
And terrirsts make it a point to blend in with civilians.
I'm not saying civilians are terrorists or need to be considered as such, just that it isn't always a bright line of division.
Either you make a concious decision to let terrorists hide in and amongst innocents or you take the risk of hurting people they are using as shields.
Not beng there, not having family gunned down on one side or the other, I'm not in a position to make that call. But I can empathize with the decisions.
With nearly 12K posts, DU-member getagrip_already might not get tomb-stoned for committing truth.
