I knew Senator Feinstein when she was Mayor of San Francisco

I did not know her well, but I met with her when I was working on homeless youth issues during the 80's. She, and her administration, were highly supportive of our efforts. She assigned a Deputy Mayor to work closely with us, and it made a real difference. But what will always stand out for me was her immediate response to the assassinations of Mayor Moscone and Supervisor Milk. She was truly heroic on that day.

Dianne Feinstein had an amazing career. With great respect though, I still feel that, IMO, she stayed in office too long. Her effectiveness was diminishing and it reached the point where California would have been better served by someone else in that seat. Her legacy would have shown even brighter, I believe, if she had been a role model for stepping aside when the time to do so had come.

It is not a mere mathematical question of age. Senator Feinstein remained highly effective well past an age when many others should retire. And there are some amazing people who remain at or near the top of their game longer than she did at age 90.

Be that as it may, she remained a force for good until the end. I can understand why she didn't choose to retire sooner, and though I mildly fault her for that decision, it can't be condemned. Neither should others be condemned for having suggested her retirement. In the end it was her decision to make, and in the end she died doing what she devoted her whole life to; public service.

R.I.P Senator Feinstein.

Punk legend/very left leaner but no fan of business as usual politicians regardless of party Jello Biafra ran for mayor of SF as a prank/publicity stunt/hey why not back in the late 70's against Feinstein, and was not a fan of her, as the comments above show.  There's other times he's talked about not liking her record as mayor too, this one is a pretty good summary.

Just a reminder, lurkers, even some folks who are on your side of the political spectrum have different experiences, opinions, and impressions.

I will not piss on her grave, unlike leftists who have a fetish for wishing hatred on conservatives who pass away.

I'm sure she was a good person, but I will ALWAYS piss on her ideas and policies she championed. The Rush Limbaugh rule when he was asked to write an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal about Obama's election in 2008. He said that he doesn't need one other than four words: I hope he fails. It was misinterpreted that El Rushbo wanted the country to fail; he simply wanted B.H.O.'s policies to fail.

2. I consider her a major contributor to what has made California the envy

of the rest of the nation.

I remember her being interviewed about gun control, and she wanted to van barrel, shrouds, and the interviewer asked her what was a barrel shroud in her reply was “I don’t know, but we need to ban them.”   :thatsright: :loser: :argh:

“If I could have gotten 51 votes for an outright ban, picking up every one of them, ‘Mr. and Mrs. America, turn em all in,’ I would have done it,” reads the Jan. 21 meme.

I post that because I’ve seen time and again those at the dump saying no one is calling for a gun ban.

I’m sorry for her family and any others who’ve suggested her loss, but she was a horrible legislator.

Pissing on her grave is petty.  Pissing on her political career is fair game.
